About Fidelity ADT
Fidelity ADT (FADT) is the residential and small commercial security division of Fidelity Services Group — South Africa’s largest integrated security solutions provider, employing over 40,000 people nationally. Fidelity ADT was formed through the acquisition and integration of ADT South Africa into the Fidelity group, combining ADT’s internationally recognised brand with Fidelity’s nationwide operational infrastructure. FADT provides armed response, alarm monitoring, CCTV, electric fencing, and access control solutions to hundreds of thousands of South African households and businesses. The Gauteng division is one of the group’s highest-revenue territories, covering Pretoria, Johannesburg, and the broader Gauteng metro — making it a high-energy, high-opportunity sales environment for motivated field sales professionals.
Purpose of the Role
The Direct Sales Consultant (Out of Hours) is responsible for driving new client acquisition and rented alarm system installations within the designated Pretoria North territory, primarily operating during out-of-hours periods when residential prospects are most accessible. The incumbent works both independently and as part of a direct sales team, conducting cold calls, networking for referrals, organising community-facing activations such as expos and shopping centre displays, and executing area-specific sales drives — all with the goal of meeting and exceeding rented unit and new client revenue targets set by the Direct Sales Team Leader.
Key Responsibilities
New Client Acquisition & Cold Calling
- Conduct structured cold calling campaigns — door-to-door and telephonically — to identify and convert new residential and small commercial prospects in the Pretoria North territory
- Qualify prospects, present Fidelity ADT’s product and monitoring solutions, and close new alarm system rental and installation contracts
- Achieve individual new client and rented unit targets as set by the Direct Sales Team Leader on a weekly and monthly basis
- Maintain an accurate pipeline of prospects and follow up systematically to maximise conversion rates
Lead Generation & Community Networking
- Actively network within the Pretoria North community to generate referral leads from existing Fidelity ADT clients, neighbourhood watch structures, estate agents, and community associations
- Plan and execute expo activations, shopping centre display events, and community roadshows to build brand visibility and generate walk-in leads
- Implement area-specific sales drives targeting high-potential suburbs, new residential developments, and sectional title complexes within the territory
Team Support & Sales Drive
- Support and motivate team members to achieve collective rented and new client targets, contributing positively to the Direct Sales Team’s overall performance
- Share successful prospecting strategies, objection-handling techniques, and lead sources with team colleagues
- Attend team briefings, sales training sessions, and product updates as required by the Direct Sales Team Leader
Administration, Compliance & Staff Wellbeing
- Complete all required sales documentation accurately, including new client contracts, installation work orders, and FICA compliance paperwork
- Process paperwork for recruitment of terminated staff or new positions within the team where required
- Assist in identifying and resolving staff queries in collaboration with the Team Leader, contributing to a positive and supportive team culture
- Support staff wellbeing initiatives within the sales team, flagging concerns to management proactively
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Matric / Grade 12 certificate (essential)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of direct sales or field sales experience — door-to-door, community sales, or direct consumer sales backgrounds are directly relevant
- Driver’s Licence: Valid Code 8 / EB driver’s licence is advantageous; the Out of Hours territory model involves travel across Pretoria North suburbs, making personal transport a practical necessity
- PSIRA Grade C: PSIRA Grade C registration is advantageous but not required — Fidelity ADT provides pathways for unregistered candidates to obtain PSIRA grading where operationally required
- Training Experience: Prior experience in coaching, mentoring, or training sales team members is advantageous for candidates aspiring toward team leadership
- Competencies: Self-motivated, target-driven, resilient under rejection, strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively within a team structure
- EE / Transformation: Black female candidates will be actively encouraged and supported per FSG’s transformation policy. Historically Disadvantaged Candidates (HDCs) are welcomed. Existing FSG employees are given preference.
- POPIA: By submitting your application, you consent to Fidelity Services Group processing your personal information for recruitment purposes in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Act 4 of 2013
Why Join Fidelity ADT – Pretoria North Sales Team
- Uncapped earning potential: Direct sales roles at Fidelity ADT are typically structured with a base salary plus commission on new contracts and rented installations — meaning high performers can significantly exceed their base package through consistent target achievement
- Recession-resistant industry: South Africa’s private security sector is one of the country’s most stable employment markets — demand for residential security monitoring grows counter-cyclically, meaning economic downturns typically increase, not decrease, household security spend. This gives FADT sales roles exceptional job stability compared to discretionary consumer sales positions
- Internationally recognised brand: ADT is a globally trusted security brand with over 150 years of history — selling under the Fidelity ADT banner gives consultants a brand credibility advantage that significantly reduces cold-call resistance compared to lesser-known security providers
- PSIRA career pathway: Fidelity ADT’s support for PSIRA grading means consultants can build a regulated security industry credential (Grade C and above) that is legally recognised across South Africa’s private security sector — opening doors to senior sales, operations, and management roles within the industry
- Pretoria North territory growth: The Pretoria North corridor — covering Akasia, Karenpark, Montana, Wonderboom, and surrounding suburbs — is one of Gauteng’s fastest-growing residential markets, driven by affordable housing development and expanding middle-income households. This translates into a large, renewable prospect base for field sales consultants
- Permanent employment with skills development: Full-time permanent contract with access to FSG’s internal training academy, Merseta-accredited learnership pathways, and structured performance reviews that support career progression into team leadership and management roles
Career Growth Path

- Direct Sales Team Leader — Lead a team of 5–10 direct sales consultants across a defined territory; own team KPIs, recruitment, training, and weekly pipeline reporting to the Area Sales Manager (Years 2–4)
- Area Sales Manager / Regional Sales Manager — Full P&L accountability for a multi-team sales territory within Fidelity ADT Gauteng; responsible for territory revenue, headcount management, and strategic market expansion (Years 4+)
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What does “Out of Hours” (O/H) mean for a Direct Sales Consultant at Fidelity ADT, and how does it affect working hours?
“Out of Hours” (O/H) in the context of Fidelity ADT’s direct sales structure refers to a sales model where consultants operate primarily during the times when residential prospects are most likely to be at home — typically late afternoons, evenings, and weekends — rather than standard 08:00–17:00 office hours. This model is specifically designed for door-to-door and neighbourhood canvassing, where daytime calls to residential properties yield low contact rates because homeowners are at work. For candidates considering this role, it means your working schedule will differ from a standard office job: expect to work Tuesday to Saturday or similar rotations, with your peak selling hours between approximately 16:00 and 20:00 on weekdays, and morning-to-afternoon on Saturdays. The trade-off is that OOH sales consultants typically enjoy higher commission earnings because contact and conversion rates during these hours are substantially better than daytime canvassing. Candidates should clarify the exact shift structure with the Direct Sales Team Leader during the interview process.
2. What is PSIRA Grade C and do I need it before applying for this sales role at Fidelity ADT?
The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA), established under the Private Security Industry Regulation Act 56 of 2001, requires all persons who perform security services in South Africa to be registered and graded. PSIRA grades range from Grade E (entry level) to Grade A (most senior), with Grade C being a mid-level operational grade that typically covers armed response, monitoring, and active security functions. For this Direct Sales Consultant role, PSIRA Grade C is listed as advantageous, not essential — meaning you can apply and be appointed without it. However, because Fidelity ADT consultants operate in the field, often at client premises and in residential communities, PSIRA registration may become a condition of continued employment as you progress. Fidelity ADT typically supports candidates in obtaining their PSIRA grading through in-house training, covering the Grade C PSIRA training curriculum which includes legal aspects of security, firearms handling (if applicable), and conduct regulations. Candidates who already hold PSIRA Grade C or higher will have a meaningful advantage during shortlisting.
3. How does the rented alarm model work at Fidelity ADT, and why is it important for a sales consultant to understand it?
Fidelity ADT’s primary residential sales model is the rented alarm system — rather than selling equipment outright, FADT installs an alarm system at the client’s property and charges a combined monthly rental and monitoring fee over a fixed contract term (typically 36 months). This model is significant for sales consultants because: first, it lowers the upfront cost barrier for prospects who cannot afford outright equipment purchases, making it easier to close new clients; second, it creates a recurring revenue stream for Fidelity ADT, which is why “rented units” are tracked as a separate KPI alongside new monitoring contracts; and third, commission structures often reward consultants per activated rental contract — meaning understanding how to position the rental model against competitor “buy-your-own-equipment” offers is a core sales competency. Knowing how to handle the objection “but I already own an alarm” — by offering Fidelity ADT monitoring-only packages or equipment upgrades — is a skill that distinguishes top performers from average consultants in this environment.
4. What makes direct sales experience in other industries transferable to Fidelity ADT, and which backgrounds perform best?
Fidelity ADT’s direct sales role is fundamentally a high-volume, relationship-based, door-to-door consumer sales position — which means the core competencies required (prospecting, objection handling, closing, pipeline management, and resilience under rejection) transfer directly from other field sales backgrounds. Candidates who have performed well in this role have come from: telecommunications field sales (MTN, Vodacom, Telkom door-to-door), FMCG direct sales (selling consumer goods to spaza shops or informal traders), financial services direct sales (funeral policy, life insurance, or credit product canvassing), and real estate canvassing. The security sector adds a specific community-trust dimension — prospects are inviting Fidelity ADT into their homes, so consultants who can build credibility and rapport quickly, and who understand community dynamics in Pretoria North suburbs, consistently outperform those with purely transactional sales backgrounds. Knowledge of Pretoria North’s suburb geography, language demographics (Afrikaans, Sepedi, English prevalence by area), and neighbourhood watch network structures is a genuine advantage that candidates should highlight in their cover letters.
5. What FICA documentation does a Fidelity ADT sales consultant need to collect from new clients, and why does it matter?
The Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA), Act 38 of 2001, requires certain businesses — including security companies that enter into ongoing service contracts — to verify the identity of their clients as part of South Africa’s anti-money laundering (AML) framework. When a Fidelity ADT sales consultant signs up a new residential client, they are typically required to collect and submit: a certified copy of the client’s South African ID document or passport; proof of residential address (not older than 3 months — utility bill, bank statement, or lease agreement); and in the case of business clients, company registration documents (CIPC certificate) and beneficial ownership details. Failure to collect complete FICA documentation results in contracts being flagged or delayed during the back-office verification process, which impacts the consultant’s commission payment timeline. Understanding FICA requirements is therefore not just a compliance obligation — it directly affects your earnings, because incomplete paperwork means delayed activated contracts and delayed commission payouts. Consultants who develop a disciplined documentation checklist habit from day one avoid this common earnings leak.
