Position Overview

Leroy Merlin Alberton is seeking two highly motivated Department Managers to lead the Electricity & Plumbing and Tools departments. This leadership role carries the responsibility of driving sales performance, ensuring industry-leading customer service, developing high-performing teams, and executing the store’s business action plans.

The Department Manager plays a strategic and operational role in the daily performance of the department, working closely with the Head of Department to achieve revenue targets, elevate the customer experience, and optimise operational processes. The position is suitable for an individual who is customer-centric, analytical, energetic, and passionate about retail excellence.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, support, motivate, and develop a team of Sales Consultants.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  • Facilitate communication and information-sharing within the team.
  • Provide coaching, skills development, and performance feedback.
  • Step into leadership responsibilities for the Head of Department when required.

Sales & Customer Experience

  • Manage daily sales operations to achieve departmental revenue and margin targets.
  • Ensure all stock is correctly priced, displayed, and merchandised to brand standards.
  • Maintain a strong focus on delivering exceptional internal and external customer service.
  • Engage directly with customers and resolve queries to uphold customer satisfaction scores.
  • Implement and monitor the department’s Business Action Plan.

Operational Excellence

  • Coordinate and oversee day-to-day store activities within the department.
  • Guarantee adherence to Leroy Merlin’s customer promise and service standards.
  • Support stock availability by monitoring inventory, price accuracy, and product placement.
  • Ensure optimal staffing is maintained for peak trading periods and service delivery.
  • Introduce operational improvements and efficiency initiatives to optimise results.
  • Participate actively in store teamwork to ensure productivity and smooth operations.

Performance & Strategy

  • Analyse departmental performance trends and implement corrective action where required.
  • Challenge the status quo by proposing improvements to processes, layout, or service delivery.
  • Contribute meaningfully to business decisions and support strategic departmental objectives.
  • Continuously update and expand personal knowledge related to products, systems, and retail best practices.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / NQF Level 4 (essential)
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Retail, Business Administration, or similar (advantageous)

Experience

  • Previous experience in a junior management or supervisory role within retail
  • Proven experience in team leadership, sales performance management, or store operations
