Position Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies has an exciting opportunity available for a DC Outbound Junior Manager to join its KZN Distribution Centre in New Germany.

The purpose of this role is to achieve operational excellence within the Dis-Chem Distribution Centre by overseeing all outbound logistics functions — including order planning, picking, checking, invoicing, and dispatching. The ideal candidate will ensure efficient management of all outbound activities to meet both legal requirements and customer delivery expectations, while maintaining high levels of accuracy, productivity, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the outbound operations within the distribution centre.

  • Ensure accurate order processing, wave planning, replenishment, and stock dispatching in line with Dis-Chem’s standard operating procedures.

  • Monitor and maintain SAP EWM systems to ensure real-time visibility and workflow optimisation.

  • Plan and implement procedures to maximise operational efficiency and resource utilisation.

  • Ensure that all orders are processed within 48 hours and distributed according to delivery schedules.

Process and Systems Optimisation

  • Support the implementation of new logistics projects aimed at improving efficiency and reducing costs.

  • Maintain accurate master data and ensure the replenishment system operates at optimal levels.

  • Identify process bottlenecks and implement data-driven solutions for continuous improvement.

Resource and Equipment Management

  • Ensure that all resources — including electronic and materials handling equipment (MHE) — are well-maintained and safe to use.

  • Monitor workforce productivity and allocate resources effectively to meet operational goals.

  • Enforce adherence to safety regulations and ensure all staff follow warehouse protocols.

Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure all goods are correctly packed, labelled, sealed, and dispatched to prevent cross-contamination or damage.

  • Verify that all goods leaving the warehouse are scanned and documented accurately.

  • Maintain compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and internal quality control standards.

People and Performance Management

  • Lead and motivate outbound staff to achieve operational targets and performance KPIs.

  • Resolve personnel issues by analysing data, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions.

  • Drive a high-performance culture through coaching, mentoring, and recognition initiatives.

Customer Service and Administration

  • Manage all internal and external customer queries efficiently to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Maintain accurate administration, documentation, and reporting for all outbound operations.

  • Identify supplier or logistical issues impacting financial objectives and escalate where necessary.


Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate.

  • Relevant Degree or Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a distribution, logistics, or supply chain environment.

Advantageous:

  • Experience in Retail or Pharmaceutical Supply Chain operations.

  • Working knowledge of SAP, EWM, or other ERP systems.

  • Previous management or supervisory experience within a distribution environment.

  • Strong understanding of logistics and supply chain principles.

  • Excellent leadership, motivational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Sound financial and analytical acumen, with the ability to interpret reports.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of OHS regulations, material handling, and warehouse safety.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.

  • Excellent communication and customer service orientation.

  • Proficient in English – reading, writing, and speaking.


Special Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a South African Citizen with a valid Driver’s Licence and reliable transport.

  • Clear criminal and credit record (MIE verification).

  • Willingness to work shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

  • Flexibility to rotate between departments or perform additional functions as needed.
