Position Overview

Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ Distribution Centre in Gqeberha has an exciting opportunity for a DC Dispatch Supervisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring smooth daily dispatch operations including order consolidation, route planning, returns management, vehicle maintenance, and compliance with both legal and customer standards. This role requires a detail-oriented, deadline-driven professional who thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage optimal route and space utilization to achieve operational efficiency.

  • Oversee and execute the planning process for outbound stock from the distribution centre.

  • Ensure accurate routing of delivery vehicles to maximise efficiency and turnaround times.

  • Guarantee that all deliveries are dispatched timeously — next-day delivery for local stores and within 48 hours for coastal stores.

  • Manage returns and collection processes, ensuring all upliftments are tracked and processed correctly.

  • Supervise the returns cage workflow in accordance with Dis-Chem’s operational standards.

  • Implement continuous improvement strategies to streamline operations.

  • Maintain accurate administration and reporting for transactional excellence.

  • Ensure full compliance with GWP, SHE programmes, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • Conduct daily debriefing of drivers, ensuring paperwork accuracy and resolution of queries.

  • Monitor delivery logs, fleet costs, and diesel usage.

  • Oversee maintenance and insurance claims for all vehicles.

  • Supervise driver and outsourced service provider performance, ensuring adherence to SLAs.

  • Analyse shrinkage indicators and initiate appropriate corrective actions.

  • Maintain high security awareness and act proactively to mitigate risks.


Minimum Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • Diploma or Degree in Transport Management, Supply Chain, or Logistics

Advantageous:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in a Distribution, Logistics, or Supply Chain environment


Core Competencies

  • Strong understanding of Distribution Centre and Supply Chain operations

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Proficient in English (read, write, and speak); knowledge of a second language advantageous

  • Sound analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills
