This critical role supports Mobile and Movable DCXR (Digital Chest X-Ray) Units in the Eastern Cape (Buffalo City Metro). Role Purpose

The Data Capturer / Driver is a multi-functional role essential for the success of community TB screening outreach. You will be responsible for the safe transit of high-tech mobile screening units and the accurate capturing of clinical data. This role bridges the gap between field operations and data-driven reporting, ensuring that every patient screened in the Buffalo City Metro is correctly recorded in the national health information systems.


Key Performance Areas & Responsibilities

1. Data Management & Reporting

  • Accurate Capturing: Capture, record, and report all data collected from TB screening activities within local communities and health facilities.

  • Report Generation: Produce daily, weekly, and monthly data summaries to track project progress and patient outcomes.

  • Data Quality Assurance: Conduct monthly and quarterly data verification and “clean-up” sessions to ensure the highest standards of reporting integrity.

  • Administrative Support: Maintain organized filing systems and provide system-generated reports to sub-district and district health offices.

2. Logistics & Vehicle Operations

  • Mobile Unit Transit: Drive heavy vehicles for community outreach purposes, ensuring the safe transport of the DCXR units.

  • Maintenance: Prepare vehicles for daily activities, conduct safety checks, and maintain an accurate, up-to-date vehicle logbook.

  • Site Setup: Assist in the physical setup and preparation of mobile units for daily screening activities in various terrains.

3. Community Mobilization & Health Support

  • Social Mobilization: Conduct active social mobilization to create demand for TB screening services within the BCM community.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with local facility staff and community leaders to facilitate smooth outreach operations.

  • Interdisciplinary Support: Work closely with clinical teams to ensure a seamless flow from patient screening to data entry.


Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

To be considered for this high-impact role in the Eastern Cape, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) certificate is essential.

  • Driver Requirements: Must possess a valid South African Code 10 Driver’s License AND a Professional Driver Permit (PrDP).

  • Data Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in data capturing and reporting, specifically within a health context.

  • Driving Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a professional driver.

  • Clinical Knowledge: Proven experience in recording and reporting TB and HIV data.

  • System Knowledge: Familiarity with health M&E systems such as TIER.net and/or DHIS is highly advantageous.

  • IT Literacy: Proficient in Microsoft Office Packages (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Core Competencies & Skills

  • Technical Proficiency: Effective data management and analytical skills.

  • Communication: Proficiency in verbal and written communication (English and local languages).

  • Adaptability: Willingness to travel extensively and work after-hours or on weekends when required.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to resolve conflicts and maintain a customer-focused approach when dealing with community members.
