Role Summary
The Cook is responsible for performing general cooking duties using standardized recipes while ensuring the highest levels of sanitation and food safety. Beyond food preparation, this role carries the responsibility of managing purchasing and implementing operational ideas to keep the kitchen efficient. You will be expected to multitask in a high-pressure environment, preparing everything from meats and fish to bakery products and special dietary meals.
Key Job Responsibilities
1. Culinary Execution & Production

Meal Preparation: Cook meats, fish, vegetables, gravies, soups, and bakery products to specific customer requirements and standardized recipe cards.

Specialized Diets: Prepare food for special dietary needs based on recipes formulated by qualified nutritionists.

Short-Order Cooking: Handle grilling, frying, and high-speed food preparation while ensuring all items of an order are finished and served simultaneously.
2. Kitchen Management & Administration

Procurement: Monitor stock levels and notify supervisors of food and supplies needed. Assist in checking in deliveries to ensure quality and quantity.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate food production records to assist in cost control and waste reduction.

Innovation: Contribute to the business by implementing new menu ideas and operational improvements to increase profitability.
3. Sanitation, Safety & Maintenance

Hygiene Standards: Maintain maximum standards of sanitation. Clean kitchen utensils, equipment, and workstations daily.

Security: Ensure refrigerators and freezers are secured and equipment is reported promptly if repairs are needed.

Leadership: Assist in on-the-job training and direct the work of food service workers and students within your assigned area.
Minimum Requirements
Education & Qualifications

Minimum Education: Must have completed Grade 12 / Matric.

Professional Qualification: A relevant culinary or professional cookery qualification is required.

Experience: 2–4 years of experience in professional kitchen preparation and cooking.
Skills and Competencies

Physical Stamina: Ability to work in a standing position for long periods and lift heavy kitchen equipment.

Flexibility: Must be able to do shift work, including weekends and nightshifts.

Communication: Ability to communicate clearly with managers and fellow kitchen personnel.

Technical Skill: Proficiency in using Standardized Recipe Cards for all product preparation.

Attributes: Detail-oriented, customer-focused, and an independent worker capable of multitasking.
