About Lil-Lets SA & Premier Group

Lil-Lets is a well-established feminine hygiene brand — producing tampons and related products for South African and export markets. As part of the Premier Group, Lil-Lets SA operates as a distinct FMCG division within Premier’s broader portfolio that includes bakery (BRB), milling, and health and personal care (HPC). The Durban Lil-Lets facility warehouses and distributes finished goods — requiring professional pallet asset management to maintain continuous, cost-effective warehouse operations.

Purpose of the Role

The Controller: Pallet ensures continuous warehouse operations through the effective control of CHEP pallets across all inbound and outbound stock movements — maintaining pallet asset integrity, system accuracy, customer dispute resolution, and compliance with Premier’s food safety and health and safety standards.

  • Apply customer relations and telephony skills throughout all pallet-related customer interactions

Stocktakes & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct physical monthly stocktakes — verifying physical pallet counts against the CHEP system and resolving variances
  • Optimise recovery of pallets and prevent over-issue and under-returns — continuously improving pallet control processes
  • Participate in the warehouse supervisor Invocom — contributing ideas for process improvement

Compliance & Administrative Support

  • Inspect and report non-conforming pallets to the warehouse manager for cleaning or replacement — maintaining Premier’s food safety and health and safety standards
  • Perform ad hoc administrative and clerical support to the Warehouse Supervisor and team

Frequently Asked Questions – CHEP Pallet Controller Jobs Durban

What is the CHEP system and why is 3–5 years of experience essential? CHEP (Commonwealth Handling Equipment Pool) is the world’s largest pallet pooling and logistics services provider — operating a shared pallet exchange system across most major South African FMCG manufacturers, retailers, and distributors. Under CHEP, companies rent pallets rather than buying them — receiving pallets from CHEP and returning them after use. The CHEP Pallet Controller manages the account between the company and CHEP — tracking every pallet in and out, reconciling CHEP’s billing reports, recovering outstanding pallets from customers, and resolving disputes with both CHEP and trading partners. The complexity of pallet reconciliation, dispute resolution, and cost control at FMCG scale requires 3–5 years to develop genuine proficiency.

What is an “Invocom” in a warehouse context? An Invocom (Innovation Communication meeting) is a structured team meeting format used in Premier and other FMCG companies — where warehouse team members regularly meet to share ideas for process improvement, discuss performance metrics, and identify operational challenges. Participation in the Invocom reflects Premier’s continuous improvement culture — and the Controller Pallet is expected to actively contribute pallet control improvement ideas rather than simply attending.

What does the HPC value chain refer to? HPC (Health and Personal Care) refers to the consumer product category covering personal hygiene, feminine care, and related products — the Lil-Lets business unit’s product category. The Controller Pallet’s desirable knowledge of the HPC value chain means understanding how Lil-Lets products flow from manufacturing through warehouse to retail distribution — providing context for why pallet management decisions affect the broader supply chain. This is category-specific knowledge rather than general warehousing knowledge.

How does this Lil-Lets post differ from the other Premier posts in this batch? All other Premier posts in this batch are at bakery (BRB) or milling production sites. The Lil-Lets SA (Site 711) is a completely different Premier division — manufacturing and distributing feminine hygiene products (tampons, pads) rather than bread or flour. The pallet control function is a warehouse and logistics role that applies equally across both divisions — but the product environment, customer base, and supply chain structure at Lil-Lets SA differ meaningfully from the BRB bakery sites.
