Ackermans is seeking a proactive and detail-driven Compliance Clerk to join the Distribution Centres Department in Kuils River, Cape Town. The Compliance Clerk will take ownership of compliance systems, contractor monitoring, reporting, dashboards, and risk mitigation processes to ensure that the Distribution Centre operates with precision, reliability, and full legislative adherence.

About the Role

The Compliance Clerk plays a critical role in supporting operational compliance across the Distribution Centre. This position ensures that Health & Safety systems, contractor activities, maintenance processes, and compliance documentation are effectively maintained and aligned with regulatory requirements.

The successful candidate will support the effective management and upkeep of all compliance systems and processes. The role requires accuracy, strong analytical capability, and the ability to transform data into actionable dashboards and reports that support informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

The Compliance Clerk will support the effective management and upkeep of all compliance systems and processes within the Distribution Centre.

Compliance dashboards must be prepared and updated frequently and accurately to ensure real-time visibility of compliance performance and risk indicators.

The role includes ongoing monitoring of contractor operations to ensure adherence to workplace compliance standards and legislative requirements.

Accurate dashboards, reports, and audit schedules must be compiled as required to support operational and compliance reviews.

Strong working relationships must be maintained with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.

The Compliance Clerk must identify opportunities and mitigate risk in relation to compliance within the workplace, ensuring proactive management of potential safety or regulatory issues.

Qualifications Required

Essential

A Grade 12 Certificate / Matric with Accounting and Mathematics is required.

A SAMTRAC (Safety Management Qualification) is required.

A Diploma relevant to the position, such as Environmental or Safety, is required.

Preferred

First Aider certification is advantageous.

Fire Fighter certification is advantageous.

SHE Representative certification is advantageous.

NEBOSH (International Safety Management Course) is advantageous.

ITIS – Train the Trainer certification is advantageous.

Experience Required

Essential

Understanding of Health & Safety systems and experience in Health & Safety programmes is required.

Experience in driving preventative maintenance systems is required.

A minimum of 3 years’ Health & Safety or Facilities experience is required.

Preferred

Supply Chain knowledge is advantageous.

Experience in a distribution environment is advantageous.

Knowledge of preventative maintenance systems is advantageous.

Experience working with Health & Safety systems is advantageous.

Understanding of risk mitigation processes is advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills

Knowledge Required

Implementation and maintenance of electronic compliance systems.

5S implementation and management.

Sound understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

Contractor Management Systems.

Asset Management systems and maintenance.

Knowledge of SANS legislation.

Technical Skills

Intermediate Excel skills and strong general computer literacy are required.

Basic project management capability is required.

Ability to prepare and deliver presentations is required.
