Role Summary
The Professional Nurse/Clinical Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, and implementation of individualized, holistic, and person-centered nursing care. As a vital member of the multi-disciplinary health team, you will coordinate complex patient care using scientifically based nursing theories and processes. This role requires a balance of technical expertise in a specialized environment and the ability to treat patients as physical, social, and spiritual individuals.
Key Work Output and Accountabilities
Consistency of Care & Patient Advocacy

Clinical Resource: Serve as a subject matter expert, assisting personnel to assess, plan, and document nursing care in the High Care Unit.

Advanced Nursing: Implement advanced nursing care in specialized fields according to Netcare SOPs and medical direction.

Emergency Response: Initiate and maintain emergency treatment (RESUS) effectively and efficiently within your Scope of Practice.

Patient Advocacy: Communicate with families and health professionals to ensure optimal patient care and problem resolution.
Quality and Risk Management

Safety & Security: Maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Standards Monitoring: Evaluate and monitor the safe utilization of medical supplies and equipment within the assigned budget.

Policy Input: Provide clinical insight for the formulation of patient care policies and hospital procedures.
Education and Training Facilitation

Mentorship: Collaborate with Clinical Facilitators to plan and implement mentoring and learning experiences for nursing staff and students.

In-Service Training: Participate in the orientation of new staff and lead ongoing reviews of emergency procedures and revised policies.
Disruptive Innovation & Digitization

CareOn Adoption: Actively participate in the transition to electronic patient records, e-scripts, and digital clinical orders to enhance patient safety and stock management.
Inherent Requirements
Education and Registration
-
SANC Registration: Current and valid registration as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).

Specialized Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of general and specialized nursing theory and practice.
Experience and Skills

High Care/ICU Experience: Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles in highly specialized fields. Relevant ICU or High Care experience is highly advantageous.

Legislative Compliance: Capacity to implement and maintain standards required by accredited bodies and health legislation.

Clinical Judgment: Ability to allocate staff based on patient acuity and specialized skill requirements.
