Purpose of the Role

The Client Service Officer: UIF is responsible for providing UIF screening services, processing applications for UIF benefits, registering payment continuation forms, and providing administrative functions at their assigned Labour Centre or Satellite Office — serving as the direct human link between KwaZulu-Natal workers and their UIF entitlements.

Screening Services

  • Provide screening services to UIF claimants — conducting initial assessments of clients presenting at the Labour Centre or Satellite Office, determining the nature of their claim, and directing them to the appropriate service or processing pathway.
  • Apply interviewing and listening skills to accurately establish each client’s circumstances and entitlements — gathering all required information efficiently and compassionately.

Processing UIF Benefit Applications

  • Process applications for UIF benefits — capturing client information, verifying documentation, and submitting complete, accurate applications through the DEL’s operating systems.
  • Apply knowledge of the Unemployment Insurance Act (UIA) and Unemployment Insurance Contributions Act (UICA) to assess application eligibility — interpreting the Acts correctly and consistently to ensure fair, lawful benefit decisions.
  • Manage and resolve application queries — applying analytical and conflict management skills to address discrepancies, missing documentation, and claimant concerns professionally and timeously.

Payment Continuation Forms

  • Register payment continuation forms for UIF beneficiaries — ensuring that ongoing benefit payments are correctly authorised and that continuation documentation is accurately processed within required timeframes.

Administrative Functions

  • Provide administrative support functions across the UIF service delivery process — maintaining accurate records, supporting data integrity, and contributing to the efficient daily operation of the Labour Centre or Satellite Office.
  • Apply computer literacy skills to operate the DEL’s UIF operations system — capturing, processing, and retrieving client and claim information accurately.
