Position Overview
The Department of Defence is recruiting a dedicated Cleaner to support daily cleaning and hygiene operations at the School of Engineers in Kroonstad.
This is an entry-level government cleaning position suited for someone with ABET qualification and a willingness to work hard, maintain discipline, and follow safety protocols.
No experience required — full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
Cleaning & Hygiene Duties

Maintain cleanliness of offices, conference rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms.

Ensure all working areas are neat, hygienic, and presentable.

Perform sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, floor cleaning, carpet cleaning, and window washing.

Dust office furniture and equipment daily.

Polish furniture as instructed.

Remove garbage from dustbins and dispose of waste daily.
Material & Equipment Management

Keep registers of cleaning materials issued.

Safeguard cleaning equipment and chemicals.

Use cleaning tools and machines effectively to complete duties.
Health, Safety & Reporting

Apply Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) measures as required.

Report defects, maintenance issues, or safety hazards to the immediate supervisor.

Follow standard operating procedures and maintain high sanitation standards.
Minimum Requirements

ABET qualification (minimum requirement).

No previous experience required.

Basic communication skills in English.

Basic knowledge of health and safety principles.

Ability to operate cleaning equipment and machines.

Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Willingness to perform routine tasks and follow instructions.
