What Does a Cashier Do at BUCO?
Cashiers are at the heart of the customer experience at BUCO. In this role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service at the point of sale, processing transactions accurately and efficiently, and ensuring the security of all till contents at all times. You will be the last point of contact for every customer leaving the branch — your professionalism and accuracy directly impact customer satisfaction and business revenue.
This is a customer-facing, detail-oriented role that requires accuracy, integrity, and the ability to work efficiently under pressure in a busy retail environment.
Key Responsibilities of a Cashier
Customer Service & Public Relations
- Greet every customer warmly and professionally at the point of sale.
- Provide helpful, polite, and efficient service that leaves a positive lasting impression.
- Handle customer queries at the till courteously and escalate unresolved issues to the supervisor.
- Uphold BUCO’s reputation for service excellence in every customer interaction.
Till Operations & Payment Processing
- Ring up customer purchases accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Accept payments via cash, card, and other approved payment methods.
- Issue accurate receipts for every transaction without exception.
- Process refunds, exchanges, and voids in accordance with company procedures.
Till Balancing & Cash Management
- Balance the till at the start and end of every shift in line with company cash management procedures.
- Ensure the full contents of the till are secure and accounted for at all times.
- Report any till discrepancies, shortages, or overages to the supervisor immediately.
- Never leave the till unattended or unsecured during trading hours.
Accuracy & Risk Management
- Capture all transactions correctly to minimise errors and reduce risk to the business.
- Verify pricing, promotions, and discounts against approved POS system entries.
- Be vigilant against fraudulent transactions, counterfeit notes, and suspicious activity.
- Maximise selling opportunities at the point of sale through product awareness and upselling where appropriate.

Minimum Requirements – Cashier

Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (NSC) — minimum requirement
Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written) — essential
- Basic computer skills and ability to operate a point-of-sale (POS) system
- Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail
- Helpful, polite, and professional manner with customers
- Ability to work under pressure and handle a busy till environment
Availability Requirements:

Legal Requirements:
