Role Summary

The Cashier is the face of our front-of-house operations. You will be responsible for receiving payments via cash, cheques, credit, or debit cards and recording these transactions accurately using electronic point-of-sale (POS) equipment. Beyond handling money, you will ensure the retail area is impeccably maintained, stocked, and that every customer is treated with a smiling face and professional care.


Key Job Responsibilities

1. Transactional & Cash Handling

  • Payment Processing: Receive and record payments accurately, issuing receipts and returning the correct change to every customer.

  • Float Management: Count money in cash drawers at the beginning of shifts to ensure amounts are correct and change is adequate.

  • Cash-Up Procedures: Ensure daily cash-ups and related paperwork are completed accurately. Discrepancies must be accounted for according to company standards.

  • Shift Closure: Coordinate with the Admin Assistant or Manager at the end of each shift to finalize till cash-ups.

2. Customer Service & Front of House

  • Customer First: Acknowledge every customer with a smile, ensuring they feel valued and special. Handle all concerns and questions professionally.

  • Operational Readiness: Ensure the counter area and tills are clean, operational, and stocked with necessary paper and ribbons.

  • Merchandising: Ensure stock in the resale area is correctly displayed, and that fridges and shelves are restocked daily to maximize sales.

3. General Operational Support

  • Versatility: Assist in the smooth running of both front-of-house and back-of-house operations, including assisting with orders during peak times.

  • Maintenance: When the store is quiet, assist with general cleaning and organization of the facility.

  • Sales Analysis: Clean the counter area and prepare a basic sales analysis on a daily basis for management review.


Minimum Requirements

Education & Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Must have completed Grade 12 / Matric.

  • Experience: Must have 2–3 years of experience in a similar cashiering or retail role.

Skills and Competencies

  • Financial Confidence: Proven ability and confidence in handling money and controlling cash accurately.

  • Technical Proficiency: Excellent operational skills on all Point of Sale (POS) till systems.

  • Administrative Flair: An enjoyment for clerical and administrative tasks with high attention to detail.

  • Personal Attributes: Must be honest, well-organized, responsible, and naturally friendly.

  • Speed: The ability to work quickly and accurately under high-pressure environments.
