Position Overview

Unitrans is seeking a Business Development: Solutions Manager to support its Business Development function from the Tulisa Park office in Gauteng. Reporting to the Business Development Manager, the incumbent will lead the preparation, coordination, and submission of tenders and proposals, manage detailed costings, and deliver commercially viable and competitive logistics solutions.

This role serves as a critical link between sales, operations, and finance, ensuring accurate, timely, and profitable bid submissions that meet client requirements while supporting company growth objectives.


Key Responsibilities

1. Tender and Proposal Management

  • Coordinate the end-to-end tender process, including document preparation, compliance checks, and submission deadlines.

  • Liaise with internal stakeholders (operations, technical, finance, legal) to gather inputs and ensure alignment with operational capabilities.

  • Draft and tailor proposal content to meet client requirements, emphasizing value propositions and differentiators.

  • Support the Business Development Manager during bid presentations and client negotiations.

2. Costing and Pricing

  • Develop detailed, accurate cost models for transport, warehousing, and integrated logistics solutions.

  • Collaborate with operations and finance to gather input on resource requirements, rates, and cost drivers.

  • Analyze tender requirements to produce competitive and profitable pricing structures.

  • Maintain and update pricing templates, databases, and cost assumptions for ongoing accuracy.

3. Solution Design and Development

  • Design and document logistics solutions aligned with client needs and internal capabilities.

  • Validate feasibility, risks, and service level commitments with operations and commercial teams.

  • Innovate and propose value-added services or alternative solutions to enhance competitiveness.

4. Market and Competitor Analysis

  • Conduct market research to understand competitor pricing and service offerings.

  • Identify trends and insights to inform pricing strategies and proposal development.

5. Process Improvement and Reporting

  • Continuously improve tender management and costing processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

  • Implement best practices in bid preparation, compliance, and cost control.

  • Maintain comprehensive records of tenders, proposals, and pricing models.

  • Prepare reports and analyses for the Business Development Manager on tender outcomes, cost variances, and market trends.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, Finance, or related discipline.

  • Experience in tender management, pricing, and commercial modelling within logistics, transportation, or supply chain sectors.

  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and proposal management tools.

  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and project management skills.

  • Ability to work across multiple departments within the supply chain environment.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management capabilities.

  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple tenders simultaneously.

  • Commercially aware with attention to financial details.

  • Proactive, collaborative, and able to influence cross-functional teams.

  • Must be mobile and willing to travel as required.
