The Department of Public Works invites applications for BOILER OPERATOR: WORKSHOP (X3 POSTS) at the Pretoria Regional Office. These positions are ideal for individuals who are skilled in boiler operations, maintenance, and safety compliance within a workshop environment.
Successful candidates will ensure the efficient functioning of boiler systems, monitor chemical usage, maintain equipment, and uphold occupational health and safety standards.

Minimum Requirements
Educational Qualification:
- Senior Certificate / Grade 12 or an equivalent recognized national stream certificate.
Knowledge and Competencies:
- Boiler operation and maintenance.
- Occupational Health and Safety Act compliance.
- Operation of equipment, tools, and machinery.
- General built environment awareness.
- Planning and organizing skills.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Interpersonal and motivational skills.
- Technical literacy and effective communication.
- Supervisory and team coordination skills.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Chemical Management:
- Request, handle, and monitor chemicals according to prescribed standards.
- Test water quality for softeners and returning condensate flows.
- Fill chemical tanks and top up brine tanks.
- Check the working condition of chemical pumps and monitor TDS levels.
Boiler Operations:
- Monitor boiler pressure according to demand and adjust stoker for efficient steam delivery.
- Check feed water pumps and hot well tanks for sufficient water supply.
- Ensure standby boilers are ready and filled with water and chemicals.
- Control fuel flow and report defects immediately.
Safety and Compliance:
- Maintain adherence to Occupational Health and Safety standards.
- Ensure the boiler environment is clean, safe, and well-maintained.
- Remove ash from boilers, gritt arrester, and smoke boxes as required.
General Maintenance and Support:
- Monitor overall boiler operation and ensure optimal performance.
- Maintain accurate records of operational and maintenance activities.
