Position Overview
The Bartender will be responsible for preparing and delivering premium beverage services across banqueting and restaurant operations. The role ensures that every drink served meets Sun International’s high standards of quality, service, and excellence.
This position offers exposure to a dynamic hospitality environment and the opportunity to develop mixology, customer service, and bar management skills.
Key Responsibilities
Prepared Work Area
- Prepare mise-en-place and conduct checks prior to service.
- Stock bars and maintain cleanliness of your section.
- Identify and resolve issues with bar display, equipment, or systems.
Service Execution
- Take guest orders accurately and place them in the system.
- Mix and present beverages according to guest requests and outlet standards.
- Explain menu items, make recommendations, and upsell promotional items.
- Conduct cash-ups and complete beverage stock sheets each shift.
- Clear glasses after guests finish drinks and provide billing.
Bar Standards
- Follow Food & Beverage SOPs consistently.
- Comply with health, safety, hygiene, and environmental regulations.
- Participate in stock takes and daily counts of bar smalls.
- Report anomalies or breakages promptly.
Customer Engagement
- Provide a warm, professional welcome to guests.
- Understand customer preferences and educate them about products, facilities, and rewards.
- Handle complaints or requests, escalating where necessary.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 preferred; Grade 10 acceptable with relevant experience.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years as a bartender.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Beverage/cocktail product knowledge
- Mixology/barrister skills
- Basic computer literacy and cashiering skills
- Effective communication and upselling abilities
- Work Conditions:
- Ability to work shifts according to operational requirements
- Physically able to move and operate bar equipment
- Flexible to perform similar functions in alternative outlets if required
