Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Cash & POS Handling: Handle cash transactions and operate POS systems accurately, professionally, and in compliance with company financial procedures.
- Hygiene & Cleanliness: Maintain a clean, hygienic, and well-organised café and service area in line with food safety legislation and Tsebo’s quality standards.
- Stock & Inventory: Assist with stocking, stock rotation, and basic inventory management to ensure the café is always fully prepared for service.
- Food Preparation: Assist with simple food preparation tasks as required to support the full café offering.
- Community Building: Create a calm, friendly, and welcoming café atmosphere that encourages social connection and makes students feel at home.
- Customer Relationships: Build positive, professional relationships with regular student and guest customers — learning their preferences and delivering a personalised service experience.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
Candidates applying for the Barista position in Pietermaritzburg must meet the following minimum requirements:
- National Senior Certificate (Matric / Grade 12) — essential.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience as a Barista or in a café, coffee shop, or food service environment.
- Proven experience preparing espresso-based beverages, specialty coffees, and teas to a high standard.
- Strong knowledge of food hygiene and food safety practices — compliance with health regulations is non-negotiable.
