Position Overview

Thorburn Security Solutions is seeking a motivated and experienced Assistant Security Manager to join the team in Steelpoort, Limpopo.

The successful candidate will coordinate daily security operations, supervise personnel, manage access control systems, and ensure compliance with safety and security legislation. This role is ideal for someone with strong leadership skills and a background in security management and risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily deployment of security personnel, including guards, dog handlers, and control room operators.

  • Monitor access control, patrols, surveillance, and control room operations.

  • Respond to and investigate security breaches, theft, and misconduct.

  • Maintain CCTV, biometric, and alarm systems.

  • Implement theft prevention strategies and manage secure cargo escorting.

  • Ensure compliance with MHSA, OHS Act, PSIRA regulations, and site-specific SOPs.

  • Conduct risk assessments and support emergency drills.

  • Compile incident reports and maintain accurate operational records.

  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Requirements

Education & Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.

  • PSIRA Grade A certification (required).

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Armed Reaction Qualification (NQF & SASSETA recognized).

  • SAPS Competency for Handgun and Shotgun (Business Purposes).

  • Crowd/Riot Control Training (including Conflict Management).

  • SETA-approved 4×4 Training.

  • Security Management qualification and investigative training preferred.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in security management and supervisory roles.

  • Knowledge of South African security legislation and best practices.

  • Hands-on experience with CCTV, alarm systems, biometric technology, and access control systems.

  • Ability to manage teams and respond effectively under pressure.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and conflict resolution skills.

  • Excellent communication skills in English.

  • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.

  • Ability to enforce compliance and maintain high standards of professionalism.
