Position Overview
Rhodes University is seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Manager: Central Cleaning Services (Grade 13).
This position supports the Manager: Housekeeping Services with high-level administration, team supervision, operational planning, and quality control to ensure the consistent delivery of a professional cleaning and housekeeping service across campus.
The role is ideal for a hospitality or facilities management professional who thrives in a service-driven environment and enjoys leading teams to maintain high operational standards.
Key Responsibilities

Assist with the management and administration of the Housekeeping Services department.

Oversee daily cleaning operations to ensure consistent service quality.

Support planning, scheduling, and coordinating cleaning activities across the University.

Implement and monitor cleaning standards and quality methodologies.
-
Supervise and mentor cleaning staff, ensuring productivity and professionalism.

Manage stock control, including consumables and equipment.
-
Maintain accurate administrative records in a computerised environment.
-
Uphold RU’s service philosophy and respond to stakeholder needs efficiently.

Ensure compliance with University, health, safety, and hygiene regulations.
Minimum Requirements
-
A relevant NQF Level 7 degree/diploma, preferably in Hospitality Management.

Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a hospitality service-related environment focused on planning and service delivery.

At least 3 years’ experience supervising or managing staff.

Previous experience in cleaning and quality methodologies.

Experience in stock control.

Proven administrative experience in a computerised environment.

A valid driver’s licence.
