Position Overview
The winery is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Finance Controller for a 4-month fixed-term role providing maternity cover. This in-office position involves managing comprehensive financial reconciliations, processing transactions, and supporting reporting across accommodation, hospitality, customer accounts, bank statements, loan accounts, and insurance claims.
The role is ideal for an accounting or finance professional with strong reconciliation experience, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while supporting multiple areas of the business.
Key Responsibilities
1. Accommodation & Customer Reconciliations

Reconcile accommodation deposits and ensure all payments align with bookings; resolve discrepancies promptly.

Perform accommodation transaction reconciliations to balance charges and payments.

Reconcile accommodation turnover, comparing actuals with expected revenue.

Handle hospitality customer reconciliations, ensuring accuracy of daily transactions.

Reconcile Franschhoek Wine Tram customer transactions, including wine, curated experiences, and rail & wine purchases.

Manage wedding customer reconciliations, ensuring payments for venue, catering, and related services are accurately processed.
2. Financial & Balance Sheet Reconciliation

Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Conduct bank processing and reconciliations for RBE and RBP accounts (Tuesdays & Fridays).

Reconcile diesel purchases for RBP accounts in line with SARS requirements.

Reconcile loan accounts weekly for RBE and RBP.
-
Process petty cash transactions on weekly and monthly schedules.

Reconcile Tall Order cash, credit card, Zapper, and SnapScan transactions monthly.

Manage Padel activity transactions and reconciliations weekly.
3. Insurance & Reporting Support

Process and reconcile insurance claims as they occur, ensuring accurate documentation.

Maintain timely and accurate reporting across all reconciled areas.

Support operational efficiency by identifying discrepancies and recommending corrective actions.
Minimum Requirements

Qualification: Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.

Experience: Proven experience in accounting, financial reconciliations, and bookkeeping.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero), MS Office Suite (Excel, Word), and platforms such as TallOrder and WineMS.

Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in managing transactions and financial records.

Time Management: Ability to handle multiple reconciliation tasks and meet strict deadlines.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication for internal and external stakeholders.

Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies professionally and efficiently.
