Safair Operations, operating as FlySafair, has an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced Aircraft & Major Modules Records Specialist to join its team on a permanent basis at the Head Office in Bonaero Park, Johannesburg. This role is ideally suited to an aviation professional with extensive aircraft records and maintenance planning experience who can ensure compliance, accuracy, and effective coordination across fleet and lease-related activities.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Manager: Maintenance Planning and will play a critical role in supporting fleet induction, lease management, compliance, and records integrity.


About the Role

The Aircraft & Major Modules Records Specialist is responsible for managing, reviewing, and controlling aircraft and major module records throughout their lifecycle, from induction into the fleet through to lease return. The role requires a deep understanding of aviation regulations, lease contract requirements, and maintenance documentation to ensure FlySafair’s fleet remains compliant and audit-ready at all times.

This position involves close collaboration with maintenance planning, compliance, asset management, legal, records administration, and external stakeholders including lessors and MROs.


Key Responsibilities

Aircraft and Major Module Records Inspections

The successful candidate will conduct inspections of all new aircraft records and major module records entering the fleet. This includes performing detailed record review inspections in line with lease contracts and company requirements to identify discrepancies and compliance gaps.

The role includes compiling and controlling Open Item Listings to ensure effective communication with lessors regarding outstanding issues identified during aircraft or major module acceptance.


Fleet Induction, Lease Management, and Compliance Support

The Aircraft & Major Modules Records Specialist will communicate outstanding record-related items to the Legal and Asset Management departments during the technical acceptance of new aircraft or major modules.

The role includes conducting offsite visits for aircraft inductions when required, reviewing physical records, and inspecting the condition of aircraft. The specialist will also support the Compliance Department with Certificate of Airworthiness inspection preparation for inducting aircraft.


Lease Returns and Stakeholder Coordination

The position requires coordinating effective lease returns of major modules, including aircraft and engines, in accordance with contractual obligations. This includes liaising with maintenance planners to coordinate induction tasks, check requirements, and lease return activities.

The role involves coordinating with records administrators regarding physical record requirements and managing annual lessor inspections while informing maintenance planners of any operational aircraft information required.


Maintenance Planning and MRO Coordination

The Aircraft & Major Modules Records Specialist will liaise with the planning section to schedule aircraft inductions and deliveries. Responsibilities include coordinating the compilation and distribution of work orders to MROs and ensuring all issued documentation is current and compliant.

The role also includes assisting with closing work orders after maintenance completion, reviewing completed work orders for accuracy, and capturing work order and component movement data from MRO documentation.


Documentation Control and Regulatory Compliance

The specialist will update logbooks for aircraft and major modules entering and leaving the fleet and assist with capturing ATLRs and component movements when required.

The role includes assisting with issuing Certificates of Release to Service (CRS) and Certificates Related to Maintenance of an Aircraft (CRMA) after maintenance completion. Ad-hoc work orders may also be created as required.

Ensuring compliance with all Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), Engineering Orders (EOs), and Alert Service Bulletins (ASBs) is a critical responsibility.


Leadership, Reporting, and Continuous Improvement

The position requires maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations, policies, and guidelines, providing expert advice when required, and reporting non-compliance while implementing corrective actions.

The Aircraft & Major Modules Records Specialist will analyse stakeholder needs, identify improvement initiatives, maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and promote a culture of teamwork.

Where applicable, the role includes assessing and optimising the performance of direct reports, providing specialised insights, and guiding, supporting, and developing team members.


Minimum Requirements

Candidates applying for this position must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent

  • 8 to 12 years’ aircraft planning or records experience in a mid-size organisation (essential)

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally

  • Willingness to work overtime


Advantageous Qualifications and Experience

The following will be advantageous:

  • Technical Diploma

  • Type rating on aircraft operated by FlySafair

  • Certificate in maintenance planning

  • Experience working on Boeing 737 aircraft
