We are currently recruiting a Mill / Factory Accountant for one of our leading clients in the manufacturing and production sector, based in Bellville, Western Cape. This role is ideal for a highly analytical professional with strong manufacturing finance experience and a passion for operational excellence.

As the Mill / Factory Accountant, you will be responsible for managing the full financial function, reporting, and cost control processes within a dynamic manufacturing environment. This includes preparing reconciliations, managing intermill transactions, leading audits, overseeing fixed assets, and supporting the plant’s financial planning and performance reporting.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric (essential)

  • B.Com Degree in Financial and Management Accounting (essential)

  • Honours / Postgraduate Diploma in Financial or Management Accounting (advantageous)

  • CIMA Graduate or Newly Qualified CA (SA) (advantageous)


Experience and Knowledge

  • 5 years’ experience in full accounting and reporting within a manufacturing or production environment

  • 3–5 years’ experience in audit processes and procedures

  • Proven expertise in manufacturing cost accounting, VAT compliance, and financial controls

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and MS Office

  • SAP ERP experience (essential)

  • Strong understanding of financial principles, standards, and regulatory compliance


Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Accounting

  • Review sales reconciliations, dispatch summaries, and weight discrepancy reports.

  • Process and validate all month-end and daily journals in SAP.

  • Reconcile and verify intermill transactions and balance adjustments.

  • Manage petty cash, cash flow monitoring, and credit card expense reconciliations.

  • Perform fixed asset verification and reconcile the asset register vs. WIP listings.

  • Approve purchase orders, ensure compliance, and monitor inventory verification (monthly & cycle counts).

  • Validate overtime and reconcile payroll data with finance records.

2. Reporting

  • Prepare and distribute weekly performance reports.

  • Compile monthly management accounts and perform detailed variance analysis.

  • Assist with half-year and year-end financial packs and supplementary schedules.

  • Submit accurate budget forecasts and assist in cost control reviews.

3. Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Conduct weekly expense and cost-centre variance reviews.

  • Investigate budget overspends and propose corrective measures.

  • Support financial planning and forecast preparation for all departments.

4. Compliance, Audits & Leadership

  • Act as team leader in the absence of the Financial Manager.

  • Participate in internal and external audits and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Maintain strong internal control systems and report non-compliance.

  • Support policy implementation and participate in special projects.

  • Lead and present financial performance meetings across departments.


Technical Competencies

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing cost structures and process accounting.

  • Familiar with ERP systems (SAP) and financial reporting tools.

  • Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication abilities.

  • Capable of handling large data volumes and multiple priorities efficiently.
