Position Overview

Takealot is seeking a Software Engineering Manager (Logistics) to lead its logistics technology team. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager (Logistics), this role is pivotal in managing, mentoring, and growing a high-performing engineering team, ensuring delivery excellence on complex software projects.

The successful candidate will drive innovation, maintain operational excellence, and oversee software solutions that enhance Takealot’s logistics operations and customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

1. Team Leadership & Development

  • Build, retain, and mentor a high-caliber engineering team.

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to foster professional growth.

  • Resolve conflicts and remove roadblocks to maximize team productivity.

  • Support career development and provide direction on innovation within the team.

2. Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Participate in architectural and strategic planning with peers and senior developers.

  • Manage project roadmaps, prioritizing tasks, and delivering software projects to completion.

  • Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and manage expectations effectively.

  • Facilitate discussions to ensure robust design methodology is applied.

3. Agile & Operational Excellence

  • Lead Agile processes within the team.

  • Track and ensure productivity and operational excellence using metrics-based approaches.

  • Promote achievements and maintain high morale while encouraging innovation.

4. Technical Leadership

  • Oversee architectural decisions and technical ownership for complex software projects.

  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.

  • Present practical input for strategic technology decisions.

  • Ensure software quality, maintainability, and adherence to best practices.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (equivalent experience accepted).

  • Experience:

    • Proven experience managing and leading engineering teams on complex software projects.

    • Strong experience with agile software development, cloud infrastructure, site reliability, provisioning, and managed systems.

    • Hands-on experience with SQL in high-load environments.

    • Technical expertise across software development, cloud platforms (GCP/AWS), and web architectures (SOA, REST).

  • Skills & Competencies:

    • Analytical and solutions-oriented mindset

    • Strong quantitative, strategic, and critical thinking skills

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills

    • Ability to interview and assess technical and organizational fit

Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of e-commerce applications and retail systems.

  • Familiarity with distributed systems, highly scalable systems, algorithms, and data structures.

  • Experience with Angular, Scala, Kotlin, Kafka, Redis, Kubernetes, and machine learning frameworks.
