Position Overview

Voltex is seeking a dedicated and experienced Driver Code 14 for its Port Elizabeth branch. Reporting directly to the Branch Manager, the primary responsibility is to ensure the timely, safe, and efficient delivery and collection of materials to customers while maintaining compliance with all transport and safety regulations.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in heavy vehicle operation, handling dangerous goods, and maintaining strict adherence to transport compliance standards. This role offers an excellent opportunity for professional growth within the logistics and distribution sector of a leading electrical supply company.


Key Responsibilities

1. Vehicle and Safety Management

  • Complete vehicle inspection sheets and ensure the vehicle is roadworthy before each journey.

  • Immediately report any defects, damages, or accidents to the Branch Manager.

  • Verify that the truck complies with weight and height limits, bridge and tunnel regulations, and transport laws for hazardous or oversized materials.

  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and ensure proper maintenance schedules are followed.

  • Keep accurate records of vehicle servicing and advise the Operations Manager on upcoming maintenance requirements.

2. Delivery and Collection Operations

  • Plan routes efficiently to meet scheduled delivery times.

  • Load stock according to the log sheet and verify that items correspond to the delivery note.

  • Obtain client signatures as confirmation of received goods.

  • Submit all relevant delivery administration, reports, and documentation for accurate record-keeping.

  • Communicate effectively with clients to resolve complaints or delivery issues.

3. Compliance and Regulations

  • Ensure compliance with all safety, transport, and security regulations.

  • Maintain adherence to company procedures for handling hazardous goods (Hazchem).

  • Follow proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during all operations.

  • Report any operational challenges or non-compliance issues to the Operations Manager promptly.


Minimum Requirements

  • Matric / Grade 12 qualification (essential).

  • Valid Code 14 driver’s license (essential).

  • Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP/CD) (essential).

  • Hazchem certificate (essential).

  • Valid passport (desirable).

  • Proven experience as a truck driver in a logistics or distribution environment.

  • Experience handling dangerous or hazardous goods.

  • Familiarity with GPS technology, AVL units, and route planning devices.

  • Knowledge of warehouse processes and stock handling.

  • Awareness of safety standards, protective clothing, and transport compliance regulations.
