Position Overview

Safal Steel Coil Division is seeking a proactive and self-motivated Forklift Driver to join its team at the Cato Ridge plant in KwaZulu-Natal. Reporting directly to the Material Handling Coordinator, the Forklift Driver will be responsible for safely operating forklifts, managing the movement of goods and materials, and performing general warehouse and production support functions.

This role requires a responsible individual with a strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and efficiency. The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience in warehouse operations, material handling, and forklift driving within a production or logistics environment.


Key Responsibilities

Material Handling and Equipment Operation

  • Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment within factory and warehouse environments.

  • Conduct daily forklift safety inspections and report any mechanical faults immediately.

  • Handle and move raw materials, finished goods, and production supplies efficiently.

  • Ensure the safe loading and offloading of vehicles and storage racks.

  • Store goods according to company instructions and layout plans.

  • Operate forklifts in tight and confined spaces while maintaining full control and awareness.

Warehouse and Stock Management

  • Support with receiving, storing, and dispatching raw or processed materials.

  • Collaborate with the Stores Person or Supervisor to address shortages or discrepancies.

  • Complete and hand over accurate documentation for all materials received and issued.

  • Assist in stock control and stocktaking processes.

  • Maintain inventory integrity and proper material labeling for traceability.

Operational Support and Safety

  • Maintain good housekeeping standards and comply with 6S safety practices at all times.

  • Adhere strictly to company safety, quality, and operational procedures.

  • Support general warehouse operations and assist departments requiring forklift services.

  • Report any unsafe conditions or potential hazards to the supervisor immediately.

  • Perform other duties as required to support the smooth running of the Material Handling Department.


Minimum Requirements

  • Matric / National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).

  • Valid Forklift License (essential).

  • Minimum of 2–3 years’ forklift operation experience in a manufacturing or logistics environment.

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in packing and dispatch operations.

  • Sound understanding of warehouse processes, stock control, and materials handling procedures.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Commitment to safety, accuracy, and productivity.
