Position Overview

The Distribution Centre Manager – Durban will oversee operations at two key facilities: the Lubricants Manufacturing Plant (LMP) and the Durban Distribution Centre (DDC). The role is responsible for warehouse operations, stock management, transport coordination, and logistics optimization, while ensuring compliance with HSEQ standards and company policies.

The successful candidate will lead and develop teams, manage third-party logistics providers, and implement operational excellence practices to meet customer service KPIs, including on-time, in-full (OTIF) delivery.


Key Responsibilities

HSEQ & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all company HSEQ policies, local legislation, and industry standards.

  • Promote a safe working environment, reporting near misses and implementing corrective actions.

  • Monitor and enforce HSE competencies for internal teams and business partners.

  • Ensure all operations comply with Maestro, Patrom, and reporting systems, and follow up on action plans for continuous improvement.

Operational & Warehouse Management

  • Oversee stock rotation, slow-moving stock, and inventory life cycles for both LMP and DDC.

  • Manage SAP and MRP systems for stock monitoring, sales order amendments, invoicing, and delivery tracking.

  • Coordinate inbound and outbound deliveries, ensuring timely closure and accurate reporting.

  • Manage monthly stock counts, reconciliations, and mass balance meetings.

  • Identify, report, and manage dead stock, implementing rework or disposal solutions as required.

  • Coordinate warehouse and transport activities with third-party logistics (3PL) providers, auditing invoices and ensuring cost efficiency.

  • Support primary loading operations and load planning for depots and ISPs.

People & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead, develop, and motivate a diverse team across warehouse and transport functions.

  • Direct work schedules to ensure business continuity during absences.

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including production, sales, transporters, and depots, to ensure smooth operations.

  • Manage Chep pallets, IBCs, and ensure timely stock counts and reconciliations.

  • Conduct routine meetings with sales, supply chain, production, and management teams.

Continuous Improvement

  • Foster a culture of operational excellence and continual improvement across teams.

  • Identify and implement efficiency gains, cost reductions, and process enhancements.


Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Transportation, Engineering, or Supply Chain Management preferred.

  • 5–10 years’ experience in warehousing and logistics, preferably in an FMCG or petroleum environment.

  • Proven experience in stock management, transportation, and third-party logistics management.

  • Strong people management, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Advanced understanding of Contract Management, WMS, SAP, and MRP functionality.

  • Experience in cost management and budget adherence.
