As a Casual Cashier at the Woodlands store, you will be the final point of contact for customers completing their purchases. Your core purpose is to deliver world-class frontline service, process sales transactions accurately using the Dis-Chem POS operating system, manage cash drawers according to strict standard operating procedures (SOPs), eliminate fraud risks, and issue loyalty rewards efficiently.
Key Performance Areas & Primary Responsibilities
1. Point-of-Sale (POS) & Financial Transactions

Transact all customer purchases accurately by receiving cash, credit/debit cards, vouchers, and coupons in accordance with Dis-Chem policies.

Swipe and process customer loyalty cards and partner accelerator programs (including Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks).

Ensure all outgoing retail stock, general store items, and dispensary scripts are scanned and fully paid for before leaving the counter.

Execute cash drops into drop safes following Dis-Chem SOPs and keep cash strictly secured inside assigned tills.

Ensure till user codes and passwords remain confidential and are changed periodically.
2. Customer Service & Frontline Operations

Maintain a professional, courteous, and friendly environment at checkout counters using Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles.

Address general store queries regarding merchandise, active promotions, and special sales.

Process authorized merchandise exchanges, refunds, and returned goods under direct supervisor sign-off.

Report customer complaints or compliments timeously to the Frontline Supervisor or Store Management.
3. Risk Management & Security Compliance

Maintain zero tolerance toward transaction inaccuracies, line-void discrepancies, and fraud risks.

Ensure all line voids, price alterations, and till adjustments are signed off and approved by the Frontline Supervisor.

Remain alert to suspicious behavior on the retail floor or at checkout bays and report security risks immediately to management.
Minimum Requirements – Casual Cashier
Educational Qualifications & Experience

Education: Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (Essential).

Experience: Minimum of 6 months’ practical cashier or till operating experience in a retail environment (Essential).

Citizenship: South African Citizen.
Essential Knowledge & Skills

Computer Literacy: Basic computer literacy (MS Office and retail POS systems).

Numerical Skills: Strong numerical capability for handling cash floats, processing change, and balancing daily takings.

Language Proficiency: Excellent command of English (spoken and written). Knowledge of a third additional South African language is advantageous.
