About the Role
Ackermans Dordrecht is seeking a Store Manager who is ready to take full ownership of the branch — its people, its performance, and its place in the local community. The core purpose of this role is to optimise sales and exceed customer expectations through the disciplined implementation of Ackermans’ operations strategy and the effective day-to-day management of the store team. This is a leadership position in every sense, and the successful candidate will be someone who sets the tone for everything that happens within the four walls of the store.
You will be the custodian of the Ackermans brand at branch level — responsible for ensuring that the store consistently reflects the values, standards, and visual identity that customers across South Africa associate with the Ackermans name. Outstanding merchandise management, rigorous stock and cost control, and the maintenance of high store standards are non-negotiable expectations of the role, and you will be held accountable for delivering on all three with consistency and discipline.
Beyond the operational dimension, this role is fundamentally about people. Ackermans places a strong emphasis on development orientation — the belief that great Store Managers are not just operationally strong, but are genuinely inspired to grow themselves and to invest in the growth of their team. If you are the kind of leader who finds satisfaction in watching a team member step into a new level of responsibility, and who leads by example in everything from punctuality to customer engagement, you will thrive in the Ackermans environment.
Please note: In terms of Ackermans’ policy for appointments and promotions, preference will be given to internal applicants who meet the competencies and minimum requirements for the position. Preference will also be given to candidates who enhance the diversity of the team and contribute to Employment Equity within the company, provided that the competencies and minimum requirements have been met.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Optimisation & Commercial Performance
- Drive and optimise sales performance across all departments within the Dordrecht store, consistently working towards and exceeding set targets.
- Implement Ackermans’ operations strategy at branch level, translating company-wide objectives into practical, measurable actions on the shop floor.
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales trends, identifying opportunities to improve turnover and responding proactively to underperformance.
- Ensure promotional activities, seasonal campaigns, and price changes are executed accurately, on time, and in line with national brand standards.
- Identify and act on local market opportunities to grow the store’s customer base and strengthen its presence within the Dordrecht community.
Merchandise Management & Store Standards
- Maintain outstanding merchandise management standards, ensuring that product presentation, ranging, and replenishment consistently meet Ackermans’ requirements.
- Uphold a high standard of work on the sales floor at all times, including display quality, signage accuracy, and overall store cleanliness and organisation.
- Implement and monitor stock management processes, including receiving, storage, stock rotation, and stockroom organisation.
- Conduct and oversee regular stock counts and reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly and accurately.
- Manage cost control within the store, minimising shrinkage, waste, and unnecessary operational expenditure.
People Management & Team Leadership
- Lead, motivate, and develop a store team that consistently delivers on Ackermans’ customer service and operational standards.
- Apply a proven ability to influence and lead — setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and holding team members accountable with fairness and consistency.
- Actively pursue a development orientation, identifying growth opportunities for team members and supporting their progression within the Ackermans organisation.
- Manage staff scheduling, attendance, leave, and performance in line with company HR policies and applicable South African labour legislation.
- Conduct performance reviews and development conversations that are constructive, forward-looking, and aligned with both individual and business goals.
Customer Experience & Brand Stewardship
- Represent and serve as the custodian of the Ackermans brand within the Dordrecht store, ensuring every customer touchpoint reflects the warmth, value, and accessibility the brand is known for.

- Handle customer complaints and escalations with professionalism, empathy, and a clear resolution focus that leaves the customer feeling valued.
- Foster a customer-first culture throughout the store team, ensuring that service excellence is understood as a collective responsibility, not an individual one.
Compliance, Administration & Operational Integrity
- Ensure the consistent application of Ackermans’ values, policies, and procedures across all aspects of store operations.
- Manage all administrative duties related to the store, including reporting, documentation, and compliance record-keeping.
- Ensure full adherence to Health & Safety standards and all relevant retail legislation and company compliance requirements.
- Liaise with area and regional management on performance updates, operational requirements, and strategic initiatives as required.

Core Values
Brand Custodianship
To be the Store Manager of an Ackermans branch is to be the living embodiment of everything the brand stands for in the eyes of the local community. Ackermans has built decades of trust with South African families by being consistent, accessible, and genuinely value-driven — and it is the Store Manager who ensures that trust is honoured every single day on the shop floor. From the way the store looks to the way the team greets a customer, your leadership defines the brand experience in Dordrecht.
People-First Leadership
Ackermans explicitly values development orientation, and for good reason: the best retail operations are built on the best teams, and the best teams are built by leaders who invest in people. As Store Manager, you will be expected to see the potential in your team members, create the conditions for them to grow, and celebrate their development as a measure of your own success. Leadership at Ackermans is not about authority — it is about influence, and the most influential Store Managers are those who develop others into leaders themselves.
Operational Excellence
High store standards are not achieved by accident — they are the result of disciplined systems, consistent follow-through, and a Manager who holds themselves and their team to a non-negotiable baseline. Ackermans expects its Store Managers to be operationally rigorous: meticulous about merchandise presentation, disciplined in stock and cost management, and relentless in their pursuit of a store environment that reflects the brand at its best. Excellence is a daily practice, not an occasional achievement.
Customer Centricity
Every operational decision a Store Manager makes ultimately exists in service of one goal: exceeding the expectations of the customer who walks through the door. In a value retail environment like Ackermans, where customers are often stretching their budgets and counting on the brand to deliver quality at a price they can trust, the standard of service you deliver carries real weight. A customer-first mindset — modelled from the top and embedded throughout the team — is what turns first-time visitors into loyal, lifelong Ackermans customers.
Integrity & Consistency
Consistency is the foundation of trust — with customers, with your team, and with the Ackermans organisation. Store Managers who apply policies fairly, uphold standards without exception, and lead with the same energy on a quiet Tuesday as they do on a busy Friday are the ones who build high-performing, high-trust store environments. Ackermans values managers who do what they say, say what they mean, and hold the line on the standards that protect both the brand and the people within it.
Career Growth Opportunities
Ackermans is a large, well-established retail group with a national footprint, and it actively develops its store management talent for broader operational and leadership roles. Store Managers who deliver consistent results and embody the Ackermans values can progress through the following stages:
- Store Manager → Senior Store Manager
- Senior Store Manager → Area Manager
- Area Manager → Regional Manager
- Regional Manager → National Operations Executive
Your career path is in your hands.
