About the Role

Adendorff Machinery Mart’s Silverlakes branch in Pretoria East is a busy, high-volume retail operation serving trade, industrial, and DIY customers across Gauteng. As Branch Manager, you will carry full responsibility for the commercial and operational performance of the branch — from developing and executing sales strategies and managing budgets, to leading the branch team and maintaining the standard of customer service that Adendorff’s customers have come to expect. This is a leadership role that demands both strategic thinking and hands-on involvement, and the successful candidate will be someone who is equally comfortable analysing sales reports and walking the shop floor.

Preference will be given to candidates who bring prior management experience from within the automotive, engineering, tools and machinery, or hardware sector. Experience in retail branch procedures is a distinct advantage, and technical knowledge of DIY tools or hardware — while not a hard minimum requirement — is described by Adendorff as an absolute added advantage. The ability to understand the products you are selling, and to develop that knowledge in your team, is central to what makes an Adendorff Branch Manager effective.

The ideal candidate is a confident, reliable, and honest leader who operates with integrity, drives performance through others, and is committed to the long-term vision that defines Adendorff Machinery Mart as a market leader. Adendorff invests meaningfully in the development of its management team, and this role offers a genuine platform for career advancement within a growing national retail group.

Please note: The Company encourages all designated groups to apply in line with its commitment to Employment Equity and transformation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What salary is on offer for the Branch Manager role at Adendorff Silverlakes? The salary for this position is negotiable and includes benefits, with the final package to be agreed upon during the interview and offer process. Adendorff benchmarks Branch Manager remuneration competitively against the tools, machinery, and hardware retail sector, and the final offer will reflect your level of management experience, commercial track record, and technical knowledge. Candidates with a strong background in branch or trade management within the automotive, engineering, or hardware sector will typically be better positioned to negotiate. You are encouraged to discuss your expectations candidly during the selection process.

What level of management experience is required for this role? This is a mid-senior level management position, and Adendorff is looking for candidates who can demonstrate a proven track record of leading a retail or trade branch team, developing and executing sales strategies, managing budgets, and driving commercial performance. Preference will be given to individuals with prior management exposure within the automotive, engineering, tools and machinery, or hardware environment. Candidates who have only held junior supervisory or team leader positions — without full branch management accountability — may not yet meet the seniority level required.

Is technical knowledge of tools and machinery essential to apply? Technical knowledge of DIY tools, power tools, spares, or machinery is listed by Adendorff as an absolute added advantage, rather than a hard minimum requirement. However, given that the Silverlakes branch specialises in tools and machinery, candidates who bring genuine technical knowledge — or a demonstrable passion for this product environment — will be significantly more competitive. At Branch Manager level, the ability to understand and communicate about the products your team is selling, and to support your staff’s product development, directly impacts commercial performance.

Standard working hours for this permanent position are Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 17:00, and Saturday mornings from 08:00 to 13:00. Saturday attendance is a firm and compulsory requirement of the role at all levels, including management. Candidates must be available and willing to commit to this schedule as a condition of employment. Additional flexibility may be required during peak trading periods, stock takes, or strategic business events, and will be communicated by senior management in advance.
