About the Role
The Dispensary Support role at Dis-Chem Pharmacies is designed to help learners gain practical pharmaceutical workplace experience while preparing to become registered Basic Pharmacist Assistants. Successful candidates will work under the supervision of qualified pharmacists and gain exposure to medication dispensing, patient care support, pharmaceutical administration, stock management, and healthcare operations.

Key Responsibilities of a Dispensary Support Learner
Dispensing & Pharmaceutical Support
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines under pharmacist supervision.
- Support pharmacists with compounding and preparation of non-sterile medicines.
- Assist with medication packing, labelling, and dispensing activities.
- Ensure all medication is checked and approved by a pharmacist.
- Learn to interpret scripts accurately within SAPC legal requirements.
Stock Control & Merchandising
- Assist with unpacking and merchandising dispensary stock.
- Maintain organisation and cleanliness of dispensary and OTC shelves.
- Monitor medicine expiry dates and stock rotation procedures.
- Report stock shortages and stock errors to management.
- Receive stock according to company SOP requirements.
Patient Care & Customer Service
- Assist patients with healthcare and dispensary enquiries.
- Follow up on patient appointments and script tracking reports.
- Support call centre scripts and patient service calls.
- Promote healthcare awareness and patient education.
- Deliver professional and customer-focused support at all times.
Operational Compliance & Learning
- Work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.
- Learn pharmaceutical procedures and healthcare regulations.
- Adhere to Dis-Chem SOPs and SAPC legal requirements.
- Maintain professional conduct and accountability.
- Support dispensary operations efficiently and responsibly.
Administrative & Healthcare Support
- Assist with scheme authorisations for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication.
- Support administrative processes related to dispensing and stock control.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records.
- Assist the dispensary manager with assigned duties.
- Ensure high standards of accuracy and compliance.
Minimum Requirements – Dispensary Support
Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 12 / Matric Certificate or Senior Certificate (essential)
- Pure Mathematics minimum 50% (essential)
- Life Science and/or Physical Science with at least an average of 50% (essential)
Experience:
- Entry-level applicants may apply
- Retail FMCG or Dis-Chem front shop experience advantageous
- Good performance record advantageous
Licences:
- No licence specified
- Must qualify for SAPC learner registration
Technical Skills:
- Basic computer literacy
