About the Role
The Driver/Messenger: Provisioning & Logistics is an entry-level support role within the provisioning and logistics function at the Department of Public Works Cape Town Regional Office. In this position, you will perform general messenger and delivery services, sort and arrange correspondence in the registry, collect submissions and documents from assigned offices, capture invoices on the system, deliver mail and parcels to addressees, and ensure that all items collected and delivered are properly recorded in the delivery book/register. You will also render auxiliary administrative support, assist with registry and operator-related activities, and support the security profile of the office.
This is a physically active, service-oriented role that demands reliability, punctuality, and a trustworthy character. Key Responsibilities of a Driver/Messenger: Provisioning & Logistics
Messenger & Delivery Services
- Perform general messenger and delivery services across the office and between assigned locations.
- Collect submissions and other documents from assigned offices for onward delivery.
- Deliver mail, files, documents, and parcels to their correct addressees accurately and timeously.
- Deliver submissions between offices as required by the Unit.
- Ensure that items to be collected are sealed and addressed before departure.
Delivery Record Keeping & Register Management
- Ensure that all documents to be delivered are recorded in the outgoing book before dispatch.
- Ensure that recipients sign on the delivery book/register upon receipt of all items.
- Record contents and physical addresses in the delivery book/register consistently and accurately.
- Maintain up-to-date, accurate delivery records at all times to support accountability and traceability.
Registry & Mail Sorting
- Sort and arrange correspondence in the registry in line with the applicable filing system.
- Sort mail, files, documents, and parcels for distribution to the correct recipients or offices.
- Support registry-related activities as required by the Unit.
- Apply knowledge of the new filing system to maintain an organised and functional registry environment.
Invoice Capturing & Systems Support
- Capture invoices on the system accurately and timeously as required.
- Apply knowledge of the Reapatala invoice tracking system where applicable.
- Support operator-related activities within the provisioning and logistics function.
- Assist with additional system-related administrative tasks as directed by the supervisor.
General Office Support & Administration
- Make copies, fax, and shred documents as required.
- Perform general office assistant tasks and render auxiliary administrative support as required.
- Support the security profile of the office in line with the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS) Act.
- Adapt work schedule in accordance with office requirements and perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Educational Qualifications:
- Grade 10 or equivalent qualification (essential)
Experience:
