What Does a Government Cleaner Do?
Cleaners are essential to maintaining hygienic, safe, and presentable working environments across Air Force Base Langebaanweg. In this role, you will be responsible for performing all cleaning-related duties in offices and other facilities as directed by the supervisor — including sweeping, vacuuming, window cleaning, dusting, polishing, and maintaining ablution facilities — while reporting any defects identified in the workplace to the supervisor immediately.
This is a physically active, routine-based role that requires a basic ABET qualification, the ability to communicate effectively in English, and the ability to operate cleaning machines and equipment safely in a structured military environment.
Key Responsibilities of a Cleaner
Office & Facility Cleaning
- Perform all cleaning-related duties in offices and other facilities as determined by the supervisor.
- Sweep, vacuum, dust, and polish furniture and floors to a consistently high standard.
- Clean windows and ensure all surfaces are maintained in a neat and presentable condition.
- Maintain cleanliness across all assigned areas throughout the working day.
Ablution Facility Maintenance
- Clean and maintain ablution facilities to a high standard of hygiene at all times.
- Ensure ablution facilities are clean and presentable throughout the day.
- Apply appropriate cleaning products and methods to maintain hygienic conditions.
Defect Reporting
- Report any defects identified in the workplace to the immediate supervisor promptly.
- Identify and communicate maintenance issues, damage, or safety hazards without delay.
- Ensure all reported defects are communicated clearly and accurately.
Cleaning Equipment & Machine Operation
- Operate cleaning machines correctly and safely as required.
- Use basic hand tools and cleaning equipment in accordance with operational requirements.
- Apply basic knowledge of machinery maintenance at a low level of complexity.
- Ensure all cleaning equipment and materials are stored correctly after use.
General Cleaning Support
- Perform routine cleaning tasks reliably and consistently as directed by the supervisor.
- Work effectively both as part of a team and independently across assigned areas.
- Carry out any additional cleaning duties as directed by the supervisor.
Minimum Requirements – Cleaner
Educational Qualifications:
- Minimum ABET qualification (essential)
