WHAT DOES A CASE OFFICER DO?
A Case Officer plays a vital role in managing offender rehabilitation and sentence administration within correctional centres. The role focuses on ensuring that sentence plans are properly implemented, updated, and aligned with Correctional Case Management Committee (CMC) decisions.
Case Officers are responsible for maintaining accurate records, compiling offender profiles, verifying information, and ensuring compliance with correctional policies and procedures. This role requires strong administrative accuracy, confidentiality, and a commitment to maintaining safety and security within the correctional environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Sentence Management & Planning
- Maintain control over sentence plans and updates
- Align sentence plans with CMC recommendations
- Ensure proper completion of G331 and G356 forms
- Update offender information on computer systems
Profile & Documentation Management
- Compile and manage profile reports (G326 forms)
- Ensure all relevant offender information is accurate
- Maintain profile registers and documentation control
- Record movement and updates of parole/correctional supervision records
Committee Coordination & Communication
- Refer decisions and recommendations to relevant offices/functionaries
- Ensure all referrals are signed by the CMC chairperson
- Track feedback and maintain communication records
- Handle case enquiries and follow-ups
Verification & Compliance
- Verify offender information and documentation accuracy
- Check calculations for minimum detention periods and release dates
- Ensure all required documentation is attached to submissions
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information
Security & Custody Management
- Ensure safe custody and control of offenders and facilities
- Conduct searches of venues and offenders
- Monitor offender movement and prevent unauthorised activity
- Ensure proper use and protection of equipment and resources
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
🎓 Educational Qualifications
- Matric / Grade 12 (essential)
- Successful completion of Correctional Science Learnership / Basic Training
💼 Experience
- CB1-1: No experience required
- CB1-2: Minimum 10 years’ experience at CB1-1 level
- CB1-3: Minimum 10 years’ experience at CB1-2 level
💻 Technical Skills
- Basic computer literacy
- Ability to manage administrative systems and records
📚 Knowledge Requirements
- Knowledge of correctional legislation, policies, and procedures
