Purpose of the Job
The Forklift Driver is responsible for operating and maintaining the forklift safely and efficiently while supporting customer service, merchandising, stock handling, and housekeeping standards within the store.
This role ensures stock is moved, loaded, and stored safely while maintaining a clean, organised, and customer-friendly environment.
Key Responsibilities of a Forklift Driver
Customer Service
- Assist customers with loading purchased goods safely
- Provide friendly and helpful in-store assistance
- Ensure goods are handled carefully to avoid damage
- Support customers with product-related queries when required
- Promote additional store services (delivery, special orders, etc.)
Forklift Operation & Safety
- Operate forklift safely according to company procedures
- Avoid overloading forklift or racking systems
- Ensure daily forklift inspection checklist is completed
- Report faults or mechanical issues immediately
- Do not operate faulty or unsafe equipment
- Never use forklift to lift personnel
- Wear all required PPE at all times
Merchandising & Stock Handling
- Ensure stock is correctly placed according to store layout
- Maintain fully stocked and well-organised shelves
- Handle bulk stock safely and efficiently
- Follow planograms and merchandising standards
- Ensure stock is stored safely and correctly
Housekeeping Duties
- Keep work areas clean and free of obstacles
- Ensure customers can move safely through aisles
- Maintain correct shelf pricing and labelling
- Complete housekeeping checklists when required
- Support store cleanliness standards at all times
Safety & Loss Prevention (OHSA Compliance)
- Follow all Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Identify and report hazards or safety risks immediately
- Ensure safe loading and unloading of goods
- Prevent stock loss and report suspicious behaviour
- Maintain safe working conditions for staff and customers
Minimum Requirements – Forklift Driver
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Education & Experience:
- Grade 12 OR minimum 1 year relevant experience
Licensing:
- Valid Forklift Driver Licence (Compulsory)
Additional Requirements:
- Physically fit to operate forklift machinery
- Ability to perform basic calculations
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy retail environment
- Good communication skills in English and local language
