Purpose of the Job
The General Assistant is responsible for maintaining excellent customer service, proper merchandising of stock, accurate shelf labelling, and maintaining housekeeping standards within the store.

Key Responsibilities of a General Assistant
Customer Service
- Assist customers with product queries and recommendations

- Ensure bulk stock is safely and correctly merchandised

Housekeeping & Store Maintenance
- Keep assigned areas clean, safe, and obstacle-free

- Complete required housekeeping checklists
- Ensure store presentation meets company standards
Health & Safety (OHSA Compliance)
- Follow all Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Ensure safe handling and merchandising of stock
- Report hazards, risks, or safety concerns immediately
- Maintain a safe environment for customers and staff
Stock Control & Loss Prevention
- Report damaged stock to the Store Manager
- Assist in reducing stock loss and improving control
- Handle merchandise carefully to prevent damage or shrinkage
Minimum Requirements – General Assistant
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Education:
- Grade 10 / NQF Level 3 with 1 year experience
OR - Grade 12 with no prior experience required
Additional Requirements:
- Valid South African ID or work permit
- Ability to communicate in English and local language
- Basic numeracy and calculation skills
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
- Ability to work under pressure in a busy retail environment
