Purpose of the Job
The Group Accountant is responsible for preparing, analysing, and reporting financial information for the Group and its subsidiaries in compliance with IFRS standards, JSE listing requirements, and the Companies Act.
This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and reliable insights for senior management decision-making.
Key Responsibilities of a Group Accountant
Monthly Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly financial calculations, reconciliations, and reports
- Ensure IFRS-compliant internal reporting
- Analyse financial results and highlight trends for management
- Prepare quarterly board pack financial information
- Deliver ad hoc financial reports when required
Financial Statement Preparation
- Prepare and finalise group and subsidiary financial statements
- Ensure compliance with IFRS standards
- Coordinate approvals across relevant stakeholders
- Ensure consistent accounting policies across subsidiaries
- Identify and communicate reporting risks or inconsistencies
SAP & Financial Systems Management
- Maintain SAP hierarchy structures and chart of accounts
- Ensure correct assignment of General Ledger accounts
- Update financial systems and reporting structures timeously
Forex & Financial Controls
- Maintain and update group currency exchange rates
- Monitor foreign exchange fluctuations
- Analyse and validate foreign currency revaluations
Group Projects & Ad Hoc Duties
- Participate in financial investigations and special projects
- Provide recommendations for process and system improvements
- Support strategic financial initiatives across the group
Minimum Requirements – Group Accountant
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Qualification:
- Minimum NQF Level 8 (Chartered Accountant – CA(SA))
- Completed SAICA articles
Experience:
- Experience in financial reporting and accounting
- Exposure to IFRS and corporate finance environments
