What Does a Junior Grain Grader Do at Senwes Grainlink?
Junior Grain Graders are an essential part of the Senwes Grainlink silo operations team. In this role, you will assist with the grading of different grain commodities, support the offloading, storage, receiving, and dispatching of grain, and help maintain the silo premises, equipment, and health and safety standards. You will also assist with control board operations, office administration, and the supervision of blue-collar personnel.
This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role that requires a strong work ethic, good communication skills, and the ability to work accurately under pressure in a fast-paced agricultural environment.
Key Responsibilities of a Junior Grain Grader
Grain Grading & Commodity Handling
- Assist with grain handling by grading different commodities in accordance with prescribed grading standards.
- Ensure all grain is correctly classified, recorded, and processed at the point of intake.
- Identify quality issues, contamination, or non-conforming grain and report findings to the supervisor immediately.
- Apply grading procedures consistently and accurately across all grain types handled at the silo.
Offloading, Receiving, Storage & Dispatching
- Assist with the offloading of grain deliveries from producers and transport vehicles.
- Support the receiving process including mass measurement, sampling, and documentation.
- Assist with the correct storage of grain in designated silo and store areas.
- Help prepare and process grain for dispatch in accordance with client orders and operational procedures.
Silo & Premises Housekeeping
- Ensure that the silo, store areas, and general premises are kept clean through regular observations and inspections.
- Adhere to all housekeeping instructions and company cleanliness standards at all times.
- Identify and report any maintenance or housekeeping concerns to the supervisor promptly.
Machinery & Equipment Maintenance
- Ensure that machinery, product handling equipment, and gutters are in good working condition.
- Report any equipment defects, breakdowns, or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately.
- Assist with basic equipment checks and preventative maintenance tasks as directed.
Control Board Operations
- Assist with the correct and effective operation of the silo control board.
- Ensure control board procedures are followed accurately to prevent operational errors or product losses.
- Report any control board irregularities or faults to the relevant supervisor without delay.
Administration & Office Support
- Assist with general office administration tasks related to silo operations.
- Maintain accurate records of grain intake, grading results, storage activities, and dispatches.
- Ensure all documentation is completed correctly and filed in accordance with company procedures.
Health, Safety & Loss Control
- Ensure that the workplace complies with all health and safety regulations at all times.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols without exception.
- Contribute to loss control efforts in the silo through systematic loss control inspections.
- Report all safety hazards, near-misses, and incidents to the supervisor immediately.
Supervision of Blue-Collar Personnel
- Assist with the supervision of blue-collar personnel under the guidance of the Silo Manager.
- Provide clear instructions and direction to team members during grain handling operations.
- Support a positive, productive, and safety-conscious working environment on the silo floor.

Educational Qualifications:
- National Senior Certificate (Grade 12 / Matric) — minimum requirement
Licence Requirements:
- Valid driver’s licence — essential
Experience:
- Candidates with up to 2 years of experience in grain handling and grading will receive preference
