Key Responsibilities – Sales Assistant
Stock Management
- Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, damaged stock, and expired stock to management
- Assist with stock file counting and general stocktaking
- Assist with loading and off-loading of stock when needed
- Identify and report damaged and expired stock immediately
- Ensure boxes are flattened after unpacking and taken to the designated area
- Restock merchandise to ensure maximum sales and full shelf ranges at all times
- Maintain stock on shelves — checking sell-by dates and removing expired products
Merchandising & Promotions
- Ensure full ranges of products are always on shelves and neatly presented
- Ensure merchandise displays, labels, and pricing are always correct — reporting all price discrepancies to management
- Build stable displays timeously for promotions
- Ensure monthly promotions are implemented effectively to maximise sales
- Put up posters and signage in time for promotions — and ensure promotional tickets, price tickets, and posters are placed within the expected timeframe
- Ensure promotional stock is removed immediately after promotions end
Point of Sale & Cash Handling
- Transact all purchases — receiving, verifying, and processing cash, cards, vouchers, coupons, and other accepted payments
- Ensure all outgoing stock is scanned and paid for
- Process all loyalty cards including accelerated partner cards
- Ensure accurate cash flow and follow correct cash handling procedures
Customer Service
- Establish professional, friendly, helpful, and courteous relationships with customers
- Keep up to date with new product knowledge to effectively assist customers
- Attend to all customer stock queries — ensuring they are dealt with and resolved
- Report customer compliments and complaints to management
Minimum Requirements – Sales Assistant
- Grade 12 / Matric — essential
