The grounds include parade grounds, gardens around administrative and residential buildings, lawns adjacent to training facilities, access road verges, recreational green spaces, and the broader base terrain. The scale and variety of the Groundsman’s work at a Joint Support Base significantly exceeds what a single-unit smaller base would involve — providing a more varied and physically engaging workday.
How does this post differ from the SAAF base Groundsman posts published earlier on this site? Three other DOD Groundsman posts have been published on this site: AFB Makhado (x14, Limpopo), AFB Durban (x3, KwaZulu-Natal), and AFB Hoedspruit (Tradesman Aid, Limpopo). The JSB Garrison posts are in Gauteng — South Africa’s most populous province and the location of the country’s administrative capital. For Pretoria-area candidates who cannot relocate to Limpopo, KZN, or the Western Cape, JSB Garrison Thaba Tshwane is the only current DOD grounds maintenance opportunity in Gauteng — making it uniquely significant for the local community.

Thaba Tshwane is a dedicated SANDF military suburb located within the greater Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality — home to multiple military units, training colleges, and support facilities.
