Key Responsibilities – Cashier
Transaction Processing
- Transact all purchases — accurately receiving and processing cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, and all other accepted payment types.
- Process all loyalty cards including accelerator partners — Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards, and eBucks — ensuring every customer receives their correct loyalty rewards.
- Exchange merchandise and accept returned goods when authorised.
- Ensure all outgoing stock, items, and scripts are scanned and paid for.
- Adhere to the customer turnover hourly rate as per company benchmark.
Cash Management & Fraud Prevention
- Be responsible for cash flow — maintaining accurate cash balance throughout every shift.
- Ensure cash is placed in the drop safe according to Dis-Chem’s SOPs.
- Ensure all money is strictly kept safely and securely inside the till.
- Handle daily takings with absolute confidentiality.
- Ensure usage of your till code and password is restricted to you alone — kept safe and changed regularly.
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by the supervisor.
- Carry out Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles.
- Recognise and report suspicious behaviour from staff and customers to management.
