Frequently Asked Questions – Retail Store Assistant Jobs Cape Town

What is SAP and why is it required for this role? SAP (Systems, Applications & Products) is the world’s most widely used enterprise resource planning (ERP) system — used across Dis-Chem’s retail operations for inventory management, point-of-sale integration, financial administration, and supply chain management. The Retail Store Assistant uses SAP daily for stock receiving, DC claims processing, and financial reconciliation. Prior SAP retail experience is specifically required — candidates without SAP experience should complete a basic SAP retail module before applying, as several affordable online introductory SAP courses are available in South Africa.

What is a Distribution Centre (DC) claim? A DC claim is a formal request submitted by a store to the retailer’s central Distribution Centre when a delivery contains stock discrepancies — short quantities, damaged goods, incorrect items, or goods not ordered. The Retail Store Assistant assists the Receiving Manager in preparing and logging these claims on the DC claims system — ensuring that the store is correctly credited for any stock shortages or damages received from the Distribution Centre. DC claims accuracy directly protects the store’s gross profit and inventory accuracy.

What does “run reconciliation” mean in a retail cash management context? A run reconciliation is the daily process of reconciling all cash transactions through the store’s point-of-sale system — comparing the physical cash counted at each till against the system total for the trading day, identifying any shorts (cash below system total) or overs (cash above system total), and documenting all variances. The Retail Store Assistant prepares this reconciliation daily — a critical financial control function that requires numeracy, discipline, and accountability.

How does this post differ from the Dis-Chem Online Administrator at Somerset Mall? Both are permanent Dis-Chem retail posts in the Western Cape closing on 31 March 2026 — but with different functional focuses. The Online Administrator (Somerset Mall) manages the Click & Collect e-commerce fulfilment system — picking, packing, and releasing online orders. The Retail Store Assistant (Parklands) covers broader store operations — customer service, POS and cash management, receiving, SAP administration, DC claims, and stock control. The Parklands role has a wider operational scope and requires SAP experience; the Somerset Mall role is more focused on digital order fulfilment. Candidates may apply for both simultaneously.

⚠️ Application Closing Date
