Purpose of the Role
The Technician is responsible for the repair and maintenance of agricultural equipment and tractors as a service to AFGRI’s farming client base in the Ceres area. You will diagnose faults, carry out skilled technical repairs, and perform preventative maintenance — while building strong customer relationships and maintaining full compliance with health, safety, and operational standards.
This is a skilled, field-based technical role that combines hands-on mechanical and electrical expertise with strong customer service, self-discipline, and the ability to work both independently in the field and collaboratively within the AFGRI technical team.
Key Responsibilities – AFGRI Technician
Repair & Maintenance of Agricultural Equipment
- Perform skilled repairs and maintenance on a wide range of tractors and agricultural equipment in line with manufacturer specifications and AFGRI technical standards.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults accurately and efficiently, implementing effective repair solutions within prescribed turnaround times.
- Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on client equipment to reduce the risk of breakdowns and extend equipment lifespan.
- Ensure all repair and maintenance work meets the required quality standards before equipment is returned to the client.
- Stay current on product knowledge relating to the repair and maintenance of tractors and agricultural machinery across the AFGRI product range.
Customer Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with AFGRI’s agricultural client base in the Ceres area.
- Ensure all customer queries and complaints are acknowledged promptly and resolved within the prescribed service turnaround times.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with clients regarding repair status, costs, timelines, and recommendations for their equipment.
- Represent AFGRI’s values of reliability, integrity, and service excellence in every client interaction — in the workshop and in the field.
Job Card Administration
- Update job cards accurately and completely for every repair, service, and maintenance task performed.
- Ensure all job card records capture the correct parts used, time spent, work completed, and any outstanding items requiring follow-up.
- Maintain organised and retrievable service records for all client equipment serviced.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Maintain a safe work environment at all times — in the workshop and at field service locations.
- Ensure that all prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) is used correctly and consistently.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations applicable to the workshop and field service environment.
- Identify and report any safety hazards, near-misses, or non-compliant conditions to the relevant supervisor immediately.
- Operate in full compliance with AFGRI’s safety policies, procedures, and legislative requirements at all times.
Minimum Requirements – AFGRI Technician
Educational Qualifications
- N2 Qualified Technician — required
- Relevant trade qualifications in Diesel Mechanics, Agricultural Mechanics, Electrical, or a related technical field are advantageous
Work Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience — essential
- This must include experience gained as part of a formal apprenticeship or learnership programme
- Proven hands-on experience in the repair and maintenance of tractors and agricultural equipment is strongly preferred
Licence Requirements
- Valid South African Driver’s Licence — essential
