Purpose of the Role
The Gaming Technical & Floor Assistant is responsible for servicing, cleaning, and maintaining gaming-related equipment to required technical standards in order to prevent failures and ensure uninterrupted operation of the casino floor. In addition to technical maintenance duties, the role carries a significant customer-facing responsibility — providing accurate information, friendly engagement, and responsive assistance to casino guests throughout every shift.
This is a hands-on technical and customer service role that combines electronics knowledge, physical capability, and a genuine passion for creating positive guest experiences in one of South Africa’s most vibrant entertainment environments.
Key Responsibilities – Gaming Technical & Floor Assistant
Maintained Gaming Product
- Clean, service, replace, and test minor components of Electronic Gaming Machines (EGMs), Gaming Kiosks, display screens, card readers, keypads, IView screens, note acceptors, EGM bases, and gaming table equipment, in accordance with the work output task register.
- Service and maintain signage, cashiering equipment, and marketing and promotional equipment across the gaming floor.
- Record all job cards accurately and completely for every service task completed.
- Move and correctly place EGMs as required by the floor layout or operational instruction.
- Clean up all move locations after completing any equipment repositioning or maintenance task.
- Ensure that all Responsible Gambling Programme (RGP) information is correctly displayed at all required locations across the gaming floor.
Gaming Technical Standards
- Keep the technical workshop clean, tidy, organised, and safe at all times.
- Clean, store, and secure all equipment and tools after use, ensuring proper inventory of parts and components.
- Adhere to all Sun International gaming technical standards, SOPs, and regulatory requirements in every maintenance and servicing task performed.
- Conduct routine checks and inspections to proactively identify potential equipment failures before they impact the guest experience or casino floor operations.
Customer Service on the Casino Floor
- Provide accurate and helpful guest information at all times, including current promotional information, loyalty programme details, and general gaming floor assistance.
- Greet every guest with a warm, friendly smile and genuine eye contact on arrival, and provide a friendly farewell on departure — ensuring every guest feels welcomed, respected, and valued.
- Be visible, available, and proactively interact with guests on the gaming floor to assist with queries, concerns, and requests in a professional and courteous manner.
- Escalate any unresolved guest concerns or technical issues beyond scope to the relevant supervisor or manager promptly.
Minimum Requirements – Gaming Technical & Floor Assistant
Educational Qualifications — One of the Following is Required:
- Grade 12 Academic with at least a C symbol in Natural Science and Mathematics, OR
- Grade 12 Technical with at least a C symbol in Mathematics and Electronics/Electrical, OR
- N3 in Electrical/Electronic studies
Physical Requirements
- Physically able to work and stand for extended periods during shift
- Physically capable of moving gaming machines and handling tools applicable to technical maintenance tasks
- Able to work shifts that meet GrandWest’s operational requirements, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
