Retail Cashier and Customer Transactions Role – Trade Division

TWK Agri is recruiting a Cashier within the Trade division at Piet Retief Retail, Mpumalanga. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all customer transactions accurately and efficiently. Purpose of the Role

The Cashier is responsible for processing customer transactions efficiently while ensuring accuracy in cash handling, receipts, and change distribution. The role supports daily retail operations by maintaining an organised checkout area and assisting with general store duties.

The position contributes directly to customer satisfaction, operational accuracy, and financial control within the Trade division.

Key Responsibilities

The Cashier will bag, box, and wrap merchandise while preparing packages for shipment where required. Ensuring goods are handled carefully and presented professionally is part of the daily operational expectation.

Computing and recording transactions accurately is a primary responsibility. The candidate will establish or identify prices of goods and tabulate bills using calculators, cash registers, or optical scanners.

At the beginning of each shift, the Cashier must count money in cash drawers to ensure that starting amounts are correct and that there is adequate change available.

Sorting, counting, and wrapping notes and coins is required to maintain proper cash control procedures. The candidate must ensure accuracy at all times when handling financial transactions.

The Cashier will greet customers entering the establishment and provide friendly, professional service throughout the transaction process.

Issuing receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers must be handled accurately and in line with store procedures.

The role includes maintaining periodic balance sheets of amounts and numbers of transactions to ensure financial accuracy and compliance with internal controls.

Receiving payment by cash or card is a core responsibility. The candidate must ensure secure and accurate processing of all payments.

Maintaining a clean and orderly checkout area is required to create a professional and welcoming retail environment.

In addition to cashier duties, the role includes stocking shelves, marking prices on shelves and items, and participating in stock takes to support inventory management.

Minimum Requirements

Matric / Grade 12 qualification is required.

Computer literacy is required to operate retail systems and process transactions.

Previous cashier experience is required.

Technical and Professional Skills

Ability to work confidently with money and maintain strict cash handling accuracy is essential.

Strong customer service skills are required to interact professionally with customers.

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to compute and record transactions efficiently.

Basic understanding of retail processes and checkout procedures is required.
