Central Johannesburg TVET College invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of HANDYMAN: (2 POSTS) at Ellis Park Campus and Alexandra Campus. These positions are responsible for performing minor maintenance, repairs, and general building upkeep within college facilities.

The successful candidates will ensure that campus infrastructure remains safe, functional, and well-maintained. Candidates with practical maintenance experience and technical skills will have an advantage.

Salary

R163 680 per annum (Level 03) plus public sector benefits

Minimum Requirements

Educational Qualification:

• National Senior Certificate / Grade 12 / Standard 10.

Additional Qualifications (Advantageous):

• Certificate in plumbing, electrical, or carpentry.
• Recognised trade test certificate will be an added advantage.

Experience:

• 0 – 6 months experience in a similar maintenance or handyman environment.

Knowledge Requirements:

• Occupational Health and Safety Act regulations.
• Operation of hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of building infrastructure layouts.
• Knowledge of building maintenance procedures.
• Knowledge of building laws and maintenance policies.
• Safe storage of tools and equipment.

Skills and Competencies:

• Basic computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook).
• Communication skills.
• Team participation and collaboration skills.
• Reliability and innovation.
• Ability to work independently.

Shortlisted candidates will undergo a pre-entry practical assessment to test technical competence.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Building Maintenance and Repairs

• Perform minor general building maintenance tasks.
• Conduct minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
• Unblock drains, toilets, and urinals.
• Replace taps and repair minor water system faults.

Infrastructure Inspection

• Conduct weekly and monthly building inspections.
• Identify infrastructure defects and report maintenance needs.

Furniture and Equipment Maintenance

• Repair broken furniture.
• Report unauthorized movement or misuse of equipment.
• Report property damage to supervisors.

Painting and Infrastructure Upkeep

• Paint buildings as requested.
• Maintain building aesthetic standards.

Cleaning and Maintenance Support

• Clean gutters and storm water channels.
• Maintain kitchen fat drainage systems.
• Ensure proper storage and cleaning of maintenance tools.

Reporting and Operational Support

• Report major maintenance requirements to supervisors.
• Perform ad-hoc maintenance tasks when required.

The Handyman will play a key role in maintaining safe and functional learning environments across campus facilities.
