Permanent Retail Cashier Opportunities at Richmond Park Business Unit

Brights Hardware is currently recruiting for Cashier X2 – Frontline Department positions at its Richmond Park Business Unit in the Western Cape. These permanent roles fall under the Franchise division within the retail industry and are aligned with the Finance functional area.

The purpose of this position is to ensure and maintain efficient service at the point of sale. This includes following correct cash register procedures, accurately ringing up sales, and delivering service excellence that enhances customer satisfaction and contributes to continuous business growth.

This opportunity is ideal for candidates with at least one year of cashier experience who are customer-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of performing accurately in a fast-paced retail environment.

Purpose of the Role

The Cashier is responsible for managing customer transactions efficiently while upholding company policies and procedures. The role requires accuracy in processing payments, vigilance in handling cash, and professionalism in customer interactions.

By ensuring that every transaction is processed correctly and that customers receive friendly and efficient service, the Cashier directly supports the store’s operational success and revenue growth.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service Excellence

Greet customers as they enter the store in a friendly and professional manner.

Deliver efficient and courteous service at all times.

Maintain awareness of all promotional products on sale to assist customers effectively.

Issue gift cards when required and check customer reward cards, including cashing in points where applicable.

Pack purchase items neatly in shopping bags to enhance the customer’s shopping experience.

Excellent interpersonal skills and positive engagement with customers are essential in this role.

Cash Handling and Transaction Accuracy

Follow the prescribed cash up procedure strictly.

Check cash received from customers carefully to ensure accuracy.

Process EFT payments correctly according to established procedures.

Ensure that all sales are rung up accurately and efficiently on the registers.

Perform daily cash ups and ensure balancing of transactions.

Hand over cash drops to the superior for security purposes.

Strong numerical ability and attention to detail are critical in maintaining financial accuracy and preventing discrepancies.

Security and Vigilance

Remain alert and aware of suspicious-looking customers to protect company assets.

Maintain awareness and vigilance at all times during transactions.

Follow internal security procedures when handling cash and processing payments.

Operational and Stock Responsibilities

Maintain housekeeping standards of the work area to ensure a clean and organised checkout environment.

Participate in perpetual stock takes when required.

Perform any additional work-related tasks delegated by the superior.

Teamwork and the ability to operate independently with minimal supervision are essential to succeed in this environment.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Matric or equivalent qualification.

Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar cashier role.

Completion of Brights Induction (service excellence).

Clear credit score.

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

Awareness and vigilance.

Ability to handle pressure in a retail environment.

Strong numerical skills.

Ability to work both independently and within a team with minimal supervision.

Exceptional organisational skills with high attention to detail and multitasking ability.

Willingness to work flexible hours and holidays to meet the needs of the business.
