Brights Hardware is currently recruiting for a Driver Code 8 – Tools Department position at its Boston Business Unit in Bellville, Western Cape. This permanent opportunity falls within the Group division of the retail industry and forms part of the General Business functional area.

The purpose of this role is to ensure that goods are delivered accurately, punctually, and in excellent condition as expected by customers. The Driver plays a vital role in customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and the sustainable growth and profitability of the business.

This position requires a responsible and customer-focused individual who can handle deliveries professionally while maintaining high standards of vehicle safety, documentation, and communication.

Purpose of the Role

The Driver Code 8 is responsible for delivering stock safely and efficiently to customers and between branches. This includes coordinating with customers and staff, monitoring loading and offloading processes, and ensuring the delivery vehicle remains in good condition through daily inspections.

By providing excellent customer service and ensuring accurate and timely deliveries, the Driver contributes directly to customer satisfaction and business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service and Communication

Providing good customer service at all times is a primary responsibility. The Driver represents the company when interacting with customers and staff across all branches.

Any delays experienced at branches must be reported promptly to the Supervisor.

At the end of each working day, the Driver must report back to the Supervisor and provide necessary updates.

Weekly evaluation reports must be submitted to the Supervisor as required.

The Driver must ensure that truck assistants remain with the vehicle at all times to maintain operational control and accountability.

Trip Documentation and Logbooks

Daily trip sheets must be completed accurately, including:

  • Opening and closing kilometre readings

  • Departure and arrival times

A daily pre-trip inspection of the vehicle must be conducted to ensure basic roadworthy standards. This inspection must be recorded on the trip sheet.

All transferred documents must be recorded in the transfer logbook.

The transfer logbook must be signed by the receiving branch to confirm successful stock handover.

Proper documentation ensures accountability, compliance, and accurate stock tracking.

Vehicle Maintenance and Reporting

The Driver is responsible for conducting a daily pre-trip inspection to confirm that the vehicle meets roadworthy standards.

Any defects identified must be reported immediately to the Supervisor, and a vehicle repair report must be completed.

Maintaining the vehicle in good condition ensures safety, reduces operational disruptions, and protects company assets.

Stock Control and Delivery Standards

All outgoing stock must have the relevant documentation before being loaded onto the vehicle.

The Driver must ensure that stock is delivered in excellent condition.

Monitoring the loading and offloading of transfers is essential to prevent damages and discrepancies.

Participation in perpetual stock takes is required when necessary.

The Driver must also perform any additional work-related tasks delegated by the superior.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Matric or equivalent qualification.

Candidates without Matric but with a valid driver’s licence and 3 years of driving experience will be considered.

Minimum 1 year driving experience.

Valid Code 8 Driver’s Licence (higher code will be advantageous).

Valid PDP (Public Driving Permit: Goods and Passengers).

Ability to handle pressure in a busy retail environment.

Strong monitoring skills.

Ability to deliver excellent customer service.

Ability to read and communicate at a high level.

Understanding of proper vehicle loading procedures.

Strong planning, time management, and organisational skills.
