Retail Cashier and Customer Service Role at Brackengate
Brights Hardware is seeking to appoint a Cashier – Frontline Department for its Brackengate business unit in Brackenfell, Western Cape. This permanent position forms part of the Group division within the retail industry and is focused on delivering efficient frontline service while supporting business growth through accurate cash handling and excellent customer service.
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure and maintain efficient service at the cash registers by following proper cash register procedures and accurately ringing up sales. The Cashier contributes directly to customer satisfaction and continuous business growth through professional service and attention to detail.
This opportunity is suitable for candidates with at least one year of experience in a similar retail cashier role who possess strong numerical ability, vigilance, and customer service skills.
About the Role
The Cashier is responsible for managing customer transactions efficiently while maintaining accuracy and compliance with cash handling procedures. The role requires greeting customers professionally, processing various forms of payment, and ensuring that all sales are correctly captured on the register.
In addition to processing transactions, the Cashier must participate in stock takes, maintain housekeeping standards at the workstation, and remain vigilant to protect company assets.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and maintain high levels of accuracy during peak retail periods.
Customer Service and Sales Processing
Customers must be greeted warmly as they enter the store to ensure a positive shopping experience.
All sales must be rung up accurately and efficiently using the cash register system.
Cash received from customers must be checked carefully to ensure correctness.
EFT payments must be processed accurately according to established procedures.
Gift cards must be issued when required, and customer reward cards must be checked with points cashed in as applicable.
The Cashier must remain aware of promotional products on sale to assist customers effectively.
Purchase items must be packed neatly in shopping bags to enhance customer satisfaction.
Cash Handling and Security
The Cashier must follow the prescribed cash up procedure strictly.
Daily cash ups must be performed accurately to ensure financial integrity.
Cash drops must be handed over to the superior for security purposes.
Vigilance must be maintained at all times, with awareness of suspicious-looking customers to safeguard company assets.
Accuracy and attention to detail are critical when managing financial transactions.
Stock and Housekeeping Responsibilities
The Cashier must participate in perpetual stock takes when required.
The housekeeping of the work area must be maintained at all times to ensure a clean and organised checkout environment.
Additional work-related tasks delegated by the superior must be performed as required.
Maintaining order and cleanliness at the workstation contributes to operational efficiency and professionalism.
Minimum Requirements
Matric or equivalent qualification is required.
Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar cashier role is required.
Completion of Brights Induction (service excellence) is required.
Clear credit score is required.
Good customer service and interpersonal skills are essential.
Strong awareness and vigilance are required.
Ability to handle pressure in a busy retail environment.
Strong numerical skills are essential.
Ability to work both independently and within a team with minimal supervision.
Exceptional organisational ability with high attention to detail and multitasking capability.
Willingness to work flexible hours and holidays to meet business needs.
