Production Packing and Machine Operation Role
Tiger Brands is recruiting for an Operator Packing position based in Pietermaritzburg. This is a full-time, onsite operational role responsible for monitoring packing machines, ensuring efficient product packing, and maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and hygiene within the production environment.

About the Role
The Operator Packing is responsible for monitoring machines used to pack products, setting up equipment, and ensuring machines operate efficiently and safely. The role includes coordinating finished product bin availability and ensuring bins are cleaned according to defined standards.
The position requires strict adherence to operational procedures, good manufacturing principles, health and safety regulations, and fumigation standards. Accurate reporting, documentation, and active participation in operational meetings are also essential components of this role.
This role requires physical capability, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to maintaining high hygiene and safety standards.
Machine Monitoring and Operational Duties
The Operator Packing will monitor machines used to pack products to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
Machines must be set up correctly and monitored continuously to maintain quality and safety standards.
The role includes coordinating finished product bin availability to ensure uninterrupted production flow.
Mechanical hoists, block and tackle systems must be operated strictly according to certified design capacity, and any deviations must be reported immediately.
Daily operational activities must align with established key performance indicators (KPIs).
Bin Cleaning and Fumigation Responsibilities
The Operator Packing is responsible for executing the daily cleaning plan, which includes climbing into or lowering oneself into bins using scaffolding, buckets, bucket seats, block and tackle systems, or mechanical hoists.
Bin walls and hoppers must be scraped, scoured, and brushed using hand scrapers and brushes to maintain hygiene standards.
The interior of bins must be fumigated using insecticides, rodent deterrents, or poisons, applied with a spray gun and defined bin cleaning tools.
Bins under fumigation must be physically locked out to ensure safety and compliance.
Fumigation standards must be adhered to at all times through proper cleaning of bins and related equipment.
Quality, Compliance and Documentation
The Operator Packing must complete various reports based on daily activities and ensure all operational documents and records are accurately maintained.
Relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) must be followed at all times.
Quality control and quality assurance results must be reviewed and responded to where necessary.
Any non-conformance must be reported promptly in line with company procedures.
Good manufacturing principles must be applied consistently within the designated work area.
Allocated cleaning materials must be used effectively to maintain high operational standards.
Health, Safety and Hygiene
Strict adherence to health and safety regulations is mandatory.
Set hygiene standards must be maintained at all times within the work environment.
Safe work practices must be followed, particularly when operating hoists, block and tackle systems, and during fumigation processes.
The Operator Packing must ensure that all cleaning and fumigation activities are conducted safely and in compliance with regulations.
Stock Control and Team Participation
The role includes participating in weekly and monthly stock counts.
Variances identified during stock counts must be investigated, and corrective measures implemented to prevent re-occurrence.
Active participation in InfoCom sessions is required to ensure effective communication and operational alignment within the team.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science (preferable).
Experience in a technical or operational environment is preferable.
The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong attention to detail, the ability to follow procedures accurately, and the capability to work effectively in a production environment.
