Unitrans is offering a permanent opportunity for a skilled Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver (Rigid) to join the Consumer Division on the Quantum Farm Services contract based in Wellington, Western Cape. This role is ideal for an experienced heavy vehicle driver with a strong safety record and the ability to transport goods efficiently and responsibly.
The position involves operating a rigid or articulated vehicle not exceeding 16 000 kg, ensuring goods are delivered safely, on time, and in full compliance with road safety legislation and company procedures.
About the Role
The Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver (Rigid) is responsible for transporting goods, products, or materials to and from specified destinations while maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, and vehicle care. The role requires accurate handling of documentation, strict adherence to operating procedures, and full accountability for vehicle roadworthiness.
This position requires flexibility, as the successful candidate must be prepared to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when operationally required.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Preparation and Operation
The successful candidate will prepare vehicles for trips and operate heavy-duty rigid vehicles safely and efficiently. This includes taking full responsibility for the roadworthiness of the vehicle before departing the depot and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations at all times.
Loading, Transportation, and Offloading
Responsibilities include loading and offloading goods and ensuring that all items transported are correctly accounted for and delivered to customers in good condition.
Vehicle Inspection and Safety
The driver must perform vehicle inspections before and after each trip, identifying and reporting any defects or issues in line with company reporting procedures.
Documentation and Compliance
The role involves handling all relevant documentation from dispatch through to the customer and returning completed documentation to the distribution centre. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
Operational Flexibility and Conduct
The Heavy Motor Vehicle Driver must be prepared to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays. All reasonable instructions from the Supervisor must be carried out while maintaining a safe driving record and professional conduct.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates applying for this position must meet the following requirements:

Grade 12 / Matric

Code 10 Driverโs License with valid PrDP (PrDP โDโ required if operating Dangerous Goods)

Minimum 3 yearsโ experience in a similar driving position
